Psalms 12

The Faithful Have Vanished

To the choirmaster: according to The Sheminith.
Probably a musical or liturgical term
A Psalm of David.

1 Save, O Lord, for bthe godly one is gone;
for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man.
2Everyone cutters lies to his neighbor;
with dflattering lips and ea double heart they speak.
3 May the Lord cut off all fflattering lips,
the tongue that makes ggreat boasts,
4those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail,
our lips are with us; who is master over us?”
5 Because hthe poor are plundered, because the needy groan,
iI will now arise,” says the Lord;
“I will place him in the jsafety for which he longs.”
6 kThe words of the Lord are pure words,
like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
purified seven times.
7 You, O Lord, will keep them;
you will guard us
Or  guard him
from this generation forever.
8On every side the wicked prowl,
as vileness is exalted among the children of man.

Psalms 83

O God, Do Not Keep Silence

A Song. A Psalm of mAsaph.

1 O God, do not keep silence;
ndo not hold your peace or be still, O God!
2For behold, your enemies omake an uproar;
those who hate you have praised their heads.
3They lay qcrafty plans against your people;
they consult together against your rtreasured ones.
4They say, “Come, slet us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
5For they conspire with one accord;
against you they make a covenant
6the tents of tEdom and uthe Ishmaelites,
vMoab and wthe Hagrites,
7 xGebal and yAmmon and zAmalek,
aaPhilistia with the inhabitants of abTyre;
8 acAsshur also has joined them;
they are the strong arm of adthe children of Lot.  Selah
9 Do to them as you did to aeMidian,
as to afSisera and Jabin at agthe river Kishon,
10who were destroyed at ahEn-dor,
who became aidung for the ground.
11Make their nobles like ajOreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like akZebah and Zalmunna,
12who said, al“Let us take possession for ourselves
of the pastures of God.”
13 O my God, make them like amwhirling dust,
Or  like a tumbleweed

like aochaff before the wind.
14As apfire consumes the forest,
as the flame aqsets the mountains ablaze,
15so may you pursue them arwith your tempest
and terrify them with your hurricane!
16 asFill their faces with shame,
that they may seek your name, O Lord.
17Let them be atput to shame and dismayed forever;
let them perish in disgrace,
18that they may auknow that you alone,
avwhose name is the Lord,
are awthe Most High over all the earth.
