I Have Calmed and Quieted My Soul

A Song of aAscents. Of David.

1 O Lord, my heart is not blifted up;
my eyes are not craised too high;
I do not doccupy myself with things
too great and etoo marvelous for me.
2But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned fchild with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Jeremiah 45:5

5And gdo you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not, for behold, hI am bringing disaster upon all flesh, declares the Lord. But I will give you iyour life as a prize of war in all places to which you may go.”

Matthew 18:1-4

Who Is the Greatest?

1 jAt that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3and said, Truly, I say to you, unless you kturn and lbecome like children, you mwill never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 nWhoever humbles himself like this child is the ogreatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 20:21-28

21And he said to her, What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine pare to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, qin your kingdom.” 22Jesus answered, r“You do not know what you are asking. Are you able sto drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” 23He said to them, t“You will drink umy cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, vbut it is for those for whom it has been wprepared by my Father.” 24And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. 25But Jesus called them to him and said, x“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles ylord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 zIt shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,
Greek diakonos
27and whoever would be first among you must be your slave,
Greek bondservant (doulos)
28even as the Son of Man came not to be served but acto serve, and adto give his life as a ransom for aemany.”

Luke 4:6-11

6and said to him, “To you afI will give all this authority and their glory, agfor it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. 7If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” 8And Jesus answered him, ah“It is written,

ai“‘You shall worship the Lord your God,
and ajhim only shall you serve.’”
9 akAnd he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are althe Son of God, throw yourself down from here, 10for it is written,

am“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
to guard you,’
11and

an“‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”

Luke 22:24-27

Who Is the Greatest?

24 aoA dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 apAnd he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles aqexercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 arBut not so with you. Rather, let asthe greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27For who is the greater, atone who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But auI am among you as the one who serves.
