Isaiah 13:1-3

The Judgment of Babylon

1The oracle concerning dBabylon which eIsaiah the son of Amoz saw.

2 On a bare hill fraise a signal;
cry aloud to them;
wave the hand for gthem to enter
the gates of the nobles.
3I myself have commanded my consecrated ones,
and have summoned my mighty men to execute my anger,
my proudly exulting ones.
Or those who exult in my majesty

Isaiah 14:4

4you will take up this itaunt against the king of Babylon:

How the oppressor has ceased,
jthe insolent fury

ceased!

Isaiah 21:1-10

Fallen, Fallen Is Babylon

1The loracle concerning the wilderness of mthe sea.

nAs whirlwinds in the Negeb sweep on,
it comes from the wilderness,
from a terrible land.
2A stern vision is told to me;
othe traitor betrays,
and the destroyer destroys.
Go up, O pElam;
lay siege, O qMedia;
all the rsighing she has caused
I bring to an end.
3Therefore my loins are filled with anguish;
spangs have seized me,
like the pangs of a woman in labor;
I am bowed down so that I cannot hear;
I am dismayed so that I cannot see.
4My heart staggers; horror has appalled me;
tthe twilight I longed for
has been turned for me into trembling.
5 uThey prepare the table,
they spread the rugs,
Or  they set the watchman

they eat, they drink.
Arise, O princes;
woil the shield!
6For thus the Lord said to me:
Go, set a watchman;
let him announce what he sees.
7When he sees riders, horsemen in pairs,
riders on donkeys, riders on camels,
let him listen diligently,
very diligently.”
8Then he who saw cried out:
Dead Sea Scroll, Syriac; Masoretic Text  Then a lion cried out, or  Then he cried out like a lion

yUpon a watchtower I stand, O Lord,
continually by day,
and at my post I am stationed
whole nights.
9And behold, here come riders,
horsemen in pairs!”
zAnd he answered,
aaFallen, fallen is Babylon;
aband all the carved images of her gods
he has shattered to the ground.”
10O acmy threshed and winnowed one,
what I have heard from the Lord of hosts,
the God of Israel, I announce to you.

Jeremiah 25:26-27

26all the kings of adthe north, far and near, one after another, and all the kingdoms of the world that are on the face of the earth. And after them the king of aeBabylon
Hebrew Sheshach, a code name for Babylon
shall drink.

27“Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: agDrink, be drunk and vomit, fall and rise no more, because of ahthe sword that I am sending among you.’

Jeremiah 27:7

7 aiAll the nations shall serve him and ajhis son and akhis grandson, aluntil the time of his own land comes. amThen many nations and great kings shall make him their slave.

Jeremiah 51:1-14

The Utter Destruction of Babylon

1 Thus says the Lord:
Behold, I will stir up anthe spirit of a destroyer
against Babylon,
against the inhabitants of Leb-kamai,
A code name for Chaldea

2and I will send to Babylon winnowers,
and apthey shall winnow her,
and they shall empty her land,
when they come against her from every side
aqon the day of trouble.
3 arLet not the archer bend his bow,
and let him not stand up in his armor.
Spare not her young men;
asdevote to destruction
That is, set apart ( devote) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction)
all her army.
4They shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans,
auand wounded in her streets.
5 avFor Israel and Judah have not been forsaken
by their God, the Lord of hosts,
but the land of the Chaldeans
Hebrew their land
is full of guilt
against the Holy One of Israel.
6 axFlee from the midst of Babylon;
let every one save his life!
ayBe not cut off in her punishment,
azfor this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance,
the repayment he is rendering her.
7Babylon was baa golden cup in the Lord’s hand,
bbmaking all the earth drunken;
bcthe nations drank of her wine;
therefore the nations went mad.
8 bdSuddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken;
bewail for her!
bfTake balm for her pain;
perhaps she may be healed.
9We would have healed Babylon,
but she was not healed.
bgForsake her, and bhlet us go
each to his own country,
for biher judgment has reached up to heaven
and has been lifted up even to the skies.
10 bjThe Lord has brought about our vindication;
bkcome, let us declare in Zion
the work of the Lord our God.
11 blSharpen the arrows!
Take up the shields!
bmThe Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of bnthe Medes, because bohis purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, bpfor that is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance for bqhis temple.

12 br“Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon;
bsmake the watch strong;
set up watchmen;
prepare the ambushes;
btfor the Lord has both planned and done
what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.
13 buO you who dwell by many waters,
rich in treasures,
your end has come;
the thread of your life is cut.
14 bvThe Lord of hosts has sworn by himself:
Surely I will fill you with men, bwas many as locusts,
bxand they shall raise the shout of victory over you.
