Psalms 14

The Fool Says, There Is No God

To the choirmaster. Of David.

1 aThe bfool says in his heart, c“There is no God.”
They are dcorrupt, they do abominable deeds;
ethere is none who does good.
2 The Lord flooks down from heaven on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,
Or that act wisely

who hseek after God.
3 They have all turned aside; together they have become icorrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
4 Have they no jknowledge, all the evildoers
who keat up my people as they eat bread
and ldo not call upon the Lord?
5 There they are in great terror,
for God is with mthe generation of the righteous.
6You would shame the plans of the poor,
but
Or for
the Lord is his orefuge.
7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord prestores the fortunes of his people,
let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

Psalms 31

Into Your Hand I Commit My Spirit

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

1 qIn you, O Lord, do I rtake refuge;
slet me never be put to shame;
in your trighteousness deliver me!
2Incline your ear to me;
rescue me speedily!
Be ua rock of vrefuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me!
3 For you are my rock and my fortress;
and for your wname’s sake you lead me and guide me;
4you xtake me out of ythe net they have hidden for me,
for you are my zrefuge.
5 aaInto your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, abfaithful God.
6 I achate
Masoretic Text; one Hebrew manuscript, Septuagint, Syriac, Jerome You hate
those who pay aeregard to worthless afidols,
but I trust in the Lord.
7I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love,
because you have seen my affliction;
you have agknown the distress of my soul,
8and you have not ahdelivered me into the hand of the enemy;
you have set my feet in aia broad place.
9 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am ajin distress;
akmy eye is wasted from grief;
my soul and my body also.
10For my life is spent with sorrow,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my iniquity,
and almy bones waste away.
11 Because of all my adversaries I have become ama reproach,
especially to my anneighbors,
and an object of dread to my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street aoflee from me.
12I have been apforgotten like one who is dead;
I have become like aqa broken vessel.
13For I arhear the whispering of many
terror on every side!—
asas they scheme together against me,
as they plot to take my life.
14 But I attrust in you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
15My autimes are in your hand;
avrescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
16 awMake your face shine on your servant;
save me in your steadfast love!
17O Lord, axlet me not be put to shame,
for I call upon you;
let the wicked be put to shame;
let them go aysilently to Sheol.
18Let the lying lips be mute,
which azspeak bainsolently against the righteous
in pride and contempt.
19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
bbin the sight of the children of mankind!
20In bcthe cover of your presence you hide them
from the plots of men;
you bdstore them in your shelter
from the strife of tongues.
21 Blessed be the Lord,
for he has wondrously beshown his steadfast love to me
when I was in bfa besieged city.
22I had said in my bgalarm,
Or  in my haste

“I am bicut off from bjyour sight.”
But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy
when I cried to you for help.
23 Love the Lord, all you his bksaints!
The Lord preserves the faithful
but abundantly blrepays the one who acts in pride.
24 bmBe strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord!
