Psalms 16

You Will Not Abandon My Soul

A aMiktam
Probably a musical or liturgical term
of David.

1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I ctake refuge.
2I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
dI have no good apart from you.”
3 As for ethe saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
in whom is all my delight.
Or To the saints in the land, the excellent in whom is all my delight, I say:

4 The sorrows of those who run after
Or  who acquire
another god shall multiply;
their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
or htake their names on my lips.
5 The Lord is imy chosen portion and my jcup;
you hold my klot.
6 lThe lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.
7 I bless the Lord who mgives me counsel;
in nthe night also my oheart instructs me.
Hebrew  my kidneys instruct me

8 qI have rset the Lord always before me;
because he is at my sright hand, I shall not be tshaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my uwhole being
Hebrew  my glory
rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
10For you will not abandon my soul to wSheol,
xor let your yholy one see zcorruption.
Or  see the pit

11 You make known to me abthe path of life;
in your presence there is acfullness of joy;
at your right hand are adpleasures forevermore.

Psalms 22

Why Have You Forsaken Me?

To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

1 aeMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so affar from saving me, from the words of my aggroaning?
2O my God, I cry by ahday, but you do not answer,
and by night, but I find no rest.
3 Yet you are aiholy,
ajenthroned on akthe praises
Or dwelling in the praises
of Israel.
4In you our fathers trusted;
they trusted, and you delivered them.
5To you they amcried and were rescued;
in you they antrusted and were not put to shame.
6 But I am aoa worm and not a man,
apscorned by mankind and aqdespised by the people.
7All who see me armock me;
they make mouths at me; they aswag their heads;
8 at“He trusts in the Lord; let him audeliver him;
let him rescue him, for he avdelights in him!”
9 Yet you are he who awtook me from the womb;
you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts.
10On you was I cast from my birth,
and from axmy mother’s womb you have been my God.
11Be not ayfar from me,
for trouble is near,
and there is aznone to help.
12 Many bulls encompass me;
bastrong bulls of bbBashan surround me;
13they bcopen wide their mouths at me,
like a ravening and roaring lion.
14 I am bdpoured out like water,
and all my bones are beout of joint;
my bfheart is like bgwax;
it is melted within my breast;
15my strength is bhdried up like a potsherd,
and my bitongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death.
16 For bjdogs encompass me;
a company of evildoers bkencircles me;
they have blpierced my hands and feet
Some Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Vulgate, Syriac; most Hebrew manuscripts like a lion [they are at] my hands and feet

17I can count all my bones
they bnstare and gloat over me;
18 bothey divide my garments among them,
and for my clothing they cast lots.
19 But you, O Lord, bpdo not be far off!
O you my help, bqcome quickly to my aid!
20Deliver my soul from the sword,
my precious life from the power of brthe dog!
21Save me from bsthe mouth of the lion!
You have rescued
Hebrew answered
me from the horns of buthe wild oxen!
22 bvI will tell of your name to my bwbrothers;
in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23You who bxfear the Lord, praise him!
All you offspring of Jacob, byglorify him,
and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24For he has not despised or abhorred
the affliction of bzthe afflicted,
and he has not cahidden his face from him,
but has heard, when he cbcried to him.
25 From you comes my praise in the great cccongregation;
my cdvows I will ceperform before those who fear him.
26 cfThe afflicted
Or  The meek
shall cheat and be satisfied;
those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
May your hearts cilive forever!
27 All cjthe ends of the earth shall remember
and turn to the Lord,
and all ckthe families of the nations
shall worship before you.
28For clkingship belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.
29 All cmthe prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
before him shall cnbow all who go down to the dust,
even the one who could not cokeep himself alive.
30Posterity shall serve him;
it shall be told of the Lord to the coming cpgeneration;
31they shall cqcome and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet crunborn,
that he has done it.

Wonderful ebCounselor, ecMighty God,

7Of the increase of his government and of peace
egthere will be no end,

eiThe zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

Malachi 4:2-6

4 epRemember eqthe law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules
Or  and just decrees
that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

5 esBehold, I will send you etElijah the prophet eubefore the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. 6And he will evturn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and ewstrike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”
The Hebrew term rendered  decree of utter destruction refers to things devoted (or set apart) to the Lord (or by the Lord) for destruction
