Matthew 22:37-40

37And he said to him, l“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38This is the great and first commandment. 39And ma second is like it: nYou shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 oOn these two commandments depend pall the Law and the Prophets.”

Mark 12:29-34

29Jesus answered, “The most important is, qHear, O Israel: The Lord our God, rthe Lord is one. 30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 sThe second is this: t‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment ugreater than these.” 32And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that vhe is one, and wthere is no other besides him. 33And to love him with all the heart and with all xthe understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, yis much more than all zwhole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” aaAnd after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Romans 7:7-12

The Law and Sin

7What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, abI would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if acthe law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8But sin, adseizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. aeFor apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10The very commandment afthat promised life proved to be death to me. 11For sin, agseizing an opportunity through the commandment, ahdeceived me and through it killed me. 12So aithe law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

Romans 7:14

14For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, ajsold under sin.

Hebrews 4:12-13

12For akthe word of God is living and alactive, amsharper than any antwo-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and aodiscerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13And apno creature is hidden from his sight, but all are aqnaked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
