Psalms 2

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed

1 aWhy do bthe nations rage
Or  nations noisily assemble

and the peoples plot in vain?
2The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his dAnointed, saying,
3“Let us eburst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
4 He who fsits in the heavens glaughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5Then he will speak to them in his hwrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6“As for me, I have iset my King
on jZion, my kholy hill.”
7 I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, l“You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
8Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and mthe ends of the earth your possession.
9You shall nbreak
Revocalization yields (compare Septuagint)  You shall rule
them with pa rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like qa potter’s vessel.”
10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 rServe the Lord with sfear,
and trejoice with utrembling.
12 vKiss wthe Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his xwrath is quickly kindled.
yBlessed are all who take refuge in him.

Psalms 139

Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, you have zsearched me and known me!
2You aaknow when I sit down and when I rise up;
you abdiscern my thoughts from afar.
3You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, acyou know it altogether.
5You adhem me in, behind and before,
and aelay your hand upon me.
6 afSuch knowledge is agtoo wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
7 ahWhere shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where aishall I flee from your presence?
8 ajIf I ascend to heaven, you are there!
akIf I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
9If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10even there your hand shall allead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
11If I say, amSurely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,”
12 aneven the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.
13 For you aoformed my inward parts;
you apknitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Or  for I am fearfully set apart

arWonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
15 asMy frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in atthe depths of the earth.
16Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your aubook were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious to me are your avthoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 awIf I would count them, they are more than axthe sand.
I awake, and I am still with you.
19 Oh that you would ayslay the wicked, O God!
O azmen of blood, badepart from me!
20They bbspeak against you with malicious intent;
your enemies bctake your name in vain.
Hebrew lacks  your name

21 beDo I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?
And do I not bfloathe those who bgrise up against you?
22I hate them with complete hatred;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart!
bhTry me and know my thoughts!
Or cares

24And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and bjlead me in bkthe way everlasting!
Or  in the ancient way (compare Jeremiah 6:16)
