Psalms 2

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed

1 aWhy do bthe nations rage
Or  nations noisily assemble

and the peoples plot in vain?
2The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his dAnointed, saying,
3“Let us eburst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
4 He who fsits in the heavens glaughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5Then he will speak to them in his hwrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6“As for me, I have iset my King
on jZion, my kholy hill.”
7 I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, l“You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
8Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and mthe ends of the earth your possession.
9You shall nbreak
Revocalization yields (compare Septuagint)  You shall rule
them with pa rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like qa potter’s vessel.”
10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 rServe the Lord with sfear,
and trejoice with utrembling.
12 vKiss wthe Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his xwrath is quickly kindled.
yBlessed are all who take refuge in him.

Psalms 16

You Will Not Abandon My Soul

A zMiktam
Probably a musical or liturgical term
of David.

1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I abtake refuge.
2I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
acI have no good apart from you.”
3 As for adthe saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
in whom is all my delight.
Or To the saints in the land, the excellent in whom is all my delight, I say:

4 The sorrows of those who run after
Or  who acquire
another god shall multiply;
their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
or agtake their names on my lips.
5 The Lord is ahmy chosen portion and my aicup;
you hold my ajlot.
6 akThe lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.
7 I bless the Lord who algives me counsel;
in amthe night also my anheart instructs me.
Hebrew  my kidneys instruct me

8 apI have aqset the Lord always before me;
because he is at my arright hand, I shall not be asshaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my atwhole being
Hebrew  my glory
rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
10For you will not abandon my soul to avSheol,
awor let your axholy one see aycorruption.
Or  see the pit

11 You make known to me bathe path of life;
in your presence there is bbfullness of joy;
at your right hand are bcpleasures forevermore.

Psalms 22

Why Have You Forsaken Me?

To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

1 bdMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so befar from saving me, from the words of my bfgroaning?
2O my God, I cry by bgday, but you do not answer,
and by night, but I find no rest.
3 Yet you are bhholy,
bienthroned on bjthe praises
Or dwelling in the praises
of Israel.
4In you our fathers trusted;
they trusted, and you delivered them.
5To you they blcried and were rescued;
in you they bmtrusted and were not put to shame.
6 But I am bna worm and not a man,
boscorned by mankind and bpdespised by the people.
7All who see me bqmock me;
they make mouths at me; they brwag their heads;
8 bs“He trusts in the Lord; let him btdeliver him;
let him rescue him, for he budelights in him!”
9 Yet you are he who bvtook me from the womb;
you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts.
10On you was I cast from my birth,
and from bwmy mother’s womb you have been my God.
11Be not bxfar from me,
for trouble is near,
and there is bynone to help.
12 Many bulls encompass me;
bzstrong bulls of caBashan surround me;
13they cbopen wide their mouths at me,
like a ravening and roaring lion.
14 I am ccpoured out like water,
and all my bones are cdout of joint;
my ceheart is like cfwax;
it is melted within my breast;
15my strength is cgdried up like a potsherd,
and my chtongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death.
16 For cidogs encompass me;
a company of evildoers cjencircles me;
they have ckpierced my hands and feet
Some Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Vulgate, Syriac; most Hebrew manuscripts like a lion [they are at] my hands and feet

17I can count all my bones
they cmstare and gloat over me;
18 cnthey divide my garments among them,
and for my clothing they cast lots.
19 But you, O Lord, codo not be far off!
O you my help, cpcome quickly to my aid!
20Deliver my soul from the sword,
my precious life from the power of cqthe dog!
21Save me from crthe mouth of the lion!
You have rescued
Hebrew answered
me from the horns of ctthe wild oxen!
22 cuI will tell of your name to my cvbrothers;
in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23You who cwfear the Lord, praise him!
All you offspring of Jacob, cxglorify him,
and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24For he has not despised or abhorred
the affliction of cythe afflicted,
and he has not czhidden his face from him,
but has heard, when he dacried to him.
25 From you comes my praise in the great dbcongregation;
my dcvows I will ddperform before those who fear him.
26 deThe afflicted
Or  The meek
shall dgeat and be satisfied;
those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
May your hearts dhlive forever!
27 All dithe ends of the earth shall remember
and turn to the Lord,
and all djthe families of the nations
shall worship before you.
28For dkkingship belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.
29 All dlthe prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
before him shall dmbow all who go down to the dust,
even the one who could not dnkeep himself alive.
30Posterity shall serve him;
it shall be told of the Lord to the coming dogeneration;
31they shall dpcome and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet dqunborn,
that he has done it.
