Psalms 2

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed

1 ^aWhy do ^bthe nations rage ^{▼▼Or nations noisily assemble}
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his ^dAnointed, saying,
3 “Let us ^eburst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
4 He who ^fsits in the heavens ^glaughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5 Then he will speak to them in his ^hwrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6 “As for me, I have ⁱset my King
on ^jZion, my ^kholy hill.”
7 I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, ^l“You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and ^mthe ends of the earth your possession.
9 You shall ⁿbreak ^{▼▼Revocalization yields (compare Septuagint) You shall rule} them with ^pa rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like ^qa potter’s vessel.”
10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 ^rServe the Lord with ^sfear,
and ^trejoice with ^utrembling.
12 ^vKiss ^wthe Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his ^xwrath is quickly kindled.
^yBlessed are all who take refuge in him.

1 O God, ^aeyou have rejected us, ^afbroken our defenses;
you have been angry; ^agoh, restore us.
2 You have made the land to quake; you have torn it open;
^ahrepair its breaches, for it totters.
3 ^aiYou have made your people see hard things;
^ajyou have given us ^akwine to drink that made us stagger.
4 You have set up ^ala banner for those who fear you,
that they may flee to it ^amfrom the bow. ^{▼▼Or that it may be displayed because of truth} Selah
5 ^aoThat your ^apbeloved ones may be delivered,
give salvation by your right hand and answer us!
6 God has spoken ^aqin his holiness: ^{▼▼Or sanctuary}
“With exultation ^asI will divide up ^atShechem
and portion out the Vale of ^auSuccoth.
7 ^avGilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
^awEphraim is ^axmy helmet;
Judah is my ^ayscepter.
8 ^azMoab is my washbasin;
upon Edom I ^bacast my shoe;

9 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
^bdWho will lead me to Edom?
10 Have you not ^berejected us, O God?

12 With God we shall ^bhdo valiantly;
it is he who will ^bitread down our foes.
