Psalms 2:1-5

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed

1 aWhy do bthe nations rage
Or  nations noisily assemble

and the peoples plot in vain?
2The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his dAnointed, saying,
3“Let us eburst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
4 He who fsits in the heavens glaughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5Then he will speak to them in his hwrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,

our lips are with us; who is master over us?”

Jeremiah 2:31

31And you, O generation, behold the word of the Lord.
Have I been a wilderness to Israel,
or a land of thick darkness?
Why then do my people say, ‘We are free,
we will come no more to you’?

Submission to the Authorities

1Let every person jbe subject to the governing authorities. For kthere is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you lwill receive his approval, 4for mhe is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, nan avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also ofor the sake of conscience.

1 Peter 2:13-14
