A Song of tAscents. Of Solomon.

those who build it labor in vain.

Isaiah 2:1-8

The Mountain of the Lord

1The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

2 vIt shall come to pass in the latter days
that wthe mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be lifted up above the hills;
and xall the nations shall flow to it,
3and ymany peoples shall come, and say:
Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For zout of Zion shall go forth the law,
Or teaching

and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4He shall judge between the nations,
and shall decide disputes for many peoples;
aband they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
acnation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war anymore.
5 O house of Jacob,
come, let us walk
in adthe light of the Lord.

The Day of the Lord

6 For you have rejected your people,
the house of Jacob,
because they are full of things aefrom the east
and afof fortune-tellers aglike the Philistines,
and they ahstrike hands with the children of foreigners.
7Their land is aifilled with silver and gold,
and there is no end to their treasures;
their land is ajfilled with horses,
and there is no end to their chariots.
8Their land is akfilled with idols;
they bow down to althe work of their hands,
to what their own fingers have made.

Isaiah 60

The Future Glory of Israel

1 amArise, shine, for your light has come,
and anthe glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
2For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
and his glory will be seen upon you.
3 aoAnd nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.
4 apLift up your eyes all around, and see;
they all gather together, they come to you;
aqyour sons shall come from afar,
and your daughters shall be carried on the hip.
5Then you shall see and arbe radiant;
your heart shall thrill and exult,
Hebrew  your heart shall tremble and grow wide

because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
atthe wealth of the nations shall come to you.
6A multitude of camels shall cover you,
the young camels of auMidian and avEphah;
all those from awSheba shall come.
axThey shall bring gold and frankincense,
and shall bring good news, the praises of the Lord.
7All the flocks of ayKedar shall be gathered to you;
the rams of azNebaioth shall minister to you;
bathey shall come up with acceptance on my altar,
bband I will beautify my beautiful house.
8 Who are these that fly like a cloud,
and bclike doves to their windows?
9For bdthe coastlands shall hope for me,
bethe ships of Tarshish first,
bfto bring your children from afar,
their silver and gold with them,
for the name of the Lord your God,
and for the Holy One of Israel,
because bghe has made you beautiful.
10 bhForeigners shall build up your walls,
and bitheir kings shall minister to you;
for in my wrath I struck you,
but in my favor I have had mercy on you.
11 bjYour gates shall be open continually;
day and night they shall not be shut,
bkthat people may bring to you the wealth of the nations,
with their kings led in procession.
12 blFor the nation and kingdom
that will not serve you shall perish;
those nations shall be utterly laid waste.
13 bmThe glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
the cypress, the plane, and bnthe pine,
to beautify the place of my sanctuary,
and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
14 boThe sons of those who afflicted you
shall come bending low to you,
bpand all who despised you
shall bow down at your feet;
bqthey shall call you the City of the Lord,
the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 brWhereas you have been forsaken and hated,
with no one passing through,
bsI will make you majestic forever,
a joy from age to age.
16 btYou shall suck the milk of nations;
you shall nurse at the breast of kings;
and you shall know that buI, the Lord, am your Savior
and your Redeemer, bvthe Mighty One of Jacob.
17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
and instead of iron I will bring silver;
instead of wood, bronze,
instead of stones, iron.
I will make your overseers peace
bwand your taskmasters righteousness.
18 bxViolence shall no more be heard in your land,
devastation or destruction within your borders;
byyou shall call your walls Salvation,
and your gates Praise.
19 bzThe sun shall be no more
your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
give you light;
Masoretic Text; Dead Sea Scroll, Septuagint, Targum add by night

but the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
Or  your beauty

20Your sun shall no more go down,
nor your moon withdraw itself;
for the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and ccyour days of mourning shall be ended.
21 cdYour people shall all be righteous;
cethey shall possess the land forever,
cfthe branch of my planting, the work of my hands,
that I might be glorified.
Or  that I might display my beauty

22 chThe least one shall become a clan,
and the smallest one a mighty nation;
ciI am the Lord;
in its time I will hasten it.

Isaiah 66:18-23

18“For I know
Septuagint, Syriac; Hebrew lacks  know
their works and their thoughts, and the time is coming
Hebrew  and it is coming
clto gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and shall see my glory,
19and I will set a sign among them. And from them cmI will send survivors to the nations, to cnTarshish, coPul, and cpLud, who draw the bow, to cqTubal and crJavan, csto the coastlands far away, ctthat have not heard my fame or seen my glory. And they shall declare my glory among the nations. 20 cuAnd they shall bring all your brothers from all the nations cvas an offering to the Lord, on horses and in chariots and in litters and on mules and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the Israelites bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord. 21 cwAnd some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the Lord.

22 For as cxthe new heavens and the new earth
that I make
shall remain before me, says the Lord,
so cyshall your offspring and your name remain.
23 czFrom new moon to new moon,
and from Sabbath to Sabbath,
all flesh shall come to worship before me,
declares the Lord.
