Psalms 30

Joy Comes with the Morning

A Psalm of David. A song at the dedication of athe temple.

1 I will bextol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
and have not let my foes crejoice over me.
2O Lord my God, I dcried to you for help,
and you have ehealed me.
3O Lord, you have brought up my soul from fSheol;
you restored me to life from among those who ggo down to the pit.
Or  to life, that I should not go down to the pit

4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you ihis saints,
and jgive thanks to his holy name.
Hebrew  to the memorial of his holiness (see Exodus 3:15)

5 lFor his anger is but for a moment,
and mhis favor is for a lifetime.
Or  and in his favor is life

oWeeping may tarry for the night,
but pjoy comes with the morning.
6 As for me, I said in my qprosperity,
“I shall never be rmoved.”
7By your favor, O Lord,
you made my smountain stand strong;
you thid your face;
I was udismayed.
8 To you, O Lord, I cry,
and vto the Lord I plead for mercy:
9“What profit is there in my death,
Hebrew  in my blood

if I go down to the pit?
Or  to corruption

Will ythe dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
10 zHear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”
11 You have turned for me my mourning into aadancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
12that my abglory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

Psalms 37

He Will Not Forsake His Saints

This psalm is an acrostic poem, each stanza beginning with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet
Of David.

1 adFret not yourself because of evildoers;
be not aeenvious of wrongdoers!
2For they will soon affade like agthe grass
and wither ahlike the green herb.
3 aiTrust in the Lord, and do good;
ajdwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Or  and feed on faithfulness, or  and find safe pasture

4 alDelight yourself in the Lord,
and he will amgive you the desires of your heart.
5 anCommit your way to the Lord;
aotrust in him, and he will act.
6 apHe will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as aqthe noonday.
7 arBe still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
asfret not yourself over the one who atprospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!
8 auRefrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
avFret not yourself; it tends only to evil.
9 awFor the evildoers shall be cut off,
but those who wait for the Lord shall axinherit the land.
10 In ayjust a little while, the wicked will be no more;
though you look carefully at azhis place, he will not be there.
11But bathe meek shall inherit the land
and delight themselves in bbabundant peace.
12 The wicked bcplots against the righteous
and bdgnashes his teeth at him,
13but the Lord belaughs at the wicked,
for he sees that his bfday is coming.
14 The wicked draw the sword and bgbend their bows
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose bhway is upright;
15their sword shall enter their own heart,
and their bibows shall be broken.
16 bjBetter is the little that the righteous has
than the abundance of many wicked.
17For bkthe arms of the wicked shall be broken,
but the Lord blupholds the righteous.
18 The Lord bmknows the days of the blameless,
and their bnheritage will remain forever;
19they are not put to shame in evil times;
in bothe days of famine they have abundance.
20 But the wicked will perish;
the enemies of the Lord are like bpthe glory of the pastures;
they vanish—like bqsmoke they vanish away.
21 The wicked borrows but does not pay back,
but the righteous bris generous and gives;
22for those blessed by the Lord
Hebrew  by him
shall btinherit the land,
but those cursed by him bushall be cut off.
23 The bvsteps of a man are bwestablished by the Lord,
when he delights in his way;
24 bxthough he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,
for the Lord byupholds his hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or his children bzbegging for bread.
26He is ever calending generously,
and his children become a blessing.
27 cbTurn away from evil and do good;
so shall you ccdwell forever.
28For the Lord cdloves justice;
he will not forsake his cesaints.
They are preserved forever,
but the children of the wicked shall be cfcut off.
29The righteous shall inherit the land
and cgdwell upon it forever.
30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks justice.
31 chThe law of his God is in his heart;
his cisteps do not slip.
32 The wicked cjwatches for the righteous
and seeks to put him to death.
33The Lord will not ckabandon him to his power
or let him clbe condemned when he is brought to trial.
34 cmWait for the Lord and keep his way,
and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
you will look on cnwhen the wicked are cut off.
35 coI have seen a wicked, ruthless man,
spreading himself like cpa green laurel tree.
The identity of this tree is uncertain

36But he passed away,
Or  But one passed by
and behold, cshe was no more;
though I sought him, he could not be found.
37 Mark the blameless and behold the upright,
for there is a future for the man of ctpeace.
38But cutransgressors shall be altogether destroyed;
the future of the wicked cvshall be cut off.
39 cwThe salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in cxthe time of trouble.
40The Lord helps them and cydelivers them;
czhe delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they datake refuge in him.
