Psalms 38:4

4For my ainiquities have gone over my head;
like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.

Isaiah 5:7-30

7 bFor the vineyard of the Lord of hosts
is the house of Israel,
and the men of Judah
are his pleasant planting;
and he looked for justice,
but behold, bloodshed;
The Hebrew words for  justice and  bloodshed sound alike

for righteousness,
but behold, an outcry!
The Hebrew words for  righteous and  outcry sound alike

Woe to the Wicked

8 Woe to those who ejoin house to house,
who add field to field,
until there is no more room,
and you are made to dwell alone
in the midst of the land.
9The Lord of hosts has sworn in my hearing:
fSurely many houses shall be desolate,
large and beautiful houses, without inhabitant.
10 gFor ten acres
Hebrew  ten yoke, the area ten yoke of oxen can plow in a day
of vineyard shall yield but one bath,
and a ihomer of seed shall yield but an ephah.”
A  bath was about 6 gallons or 22 liters; a  homer was about 6 bushels or 220 liters; an  ephah was about 3/5 bushel or 22 liters

11 Woe to those who krise early in the morning,
that they may run after strong drink,
who tarry late into the evening
as wine inflames them!
12 lThey have lyre and harp,
tambourine and flute and wine at their feasts,
mbut they do not regard the deeds of the Lord,
or see the work of his hands.
13 Therefore my people go into exile
nfor lack of knowledge;
Or without their knowledge

their phonored men go hungry,
Or die of hunger

and their multitude is parched with thirst.
14Therefore Sheol has renlarged its appetite
and opened sits mouth beyond measure,
and the nobility of Jerusalem
Hebrew her nobility
and her multitude will go down,
her revelers and he who uexults in her.
15 vMan is humbled, and each one is brought low,
and the eyes of the haughty
Hebrew high
are brought low.
16 xBut the Lord of hosts is exalted
Hebrew high
in justice,
and the Holy God shows himself holy in righteousness.
17Then shall the lambs graze zas in their pasture,
and aanomads shall eat among the ruins of the rich.
18 Woe to those who draw iniquity with abcords of falsehood,
who draw sin as with cart ropes,
19who say: ac“Let him be quick,
let him speed his work
that we may see it;
let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near,
and let it come, that we may know it!”
20Woe to adthose who call evil good
and good evil,
aewho put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter!
21Woe to those who are afwise in their own eyes,
and shrewd in their own sight!
22Woe to those who are agheroes at drinking wine,
and valiant men in mixing strong drink,
23who ahacquit the guilty for a bribe,
and deprive the innocent of his right!
24 Therefore, aias the tongue of fire devours the stubble,
and as dry grass sinks down in the flame,
so ajtheir root will be akas rottenness,
and their blossom go up like dust;
for they have alrejected the law of the Lord of hosts,
and have amdespised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25Therefore anthe anger of the Lord was kindled against his people,
and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them,
and aothe mountains quaked;
and their corpses were apas refuse
in the midst of the streets.
aqFor all this his anger has not turned away,
and his hand is stretched out still.
26 He will arraise a signal for nations far away,
and aswhistle for them atfrom the ends of the earth;
and behold, quickly, speedily they come!
27 auNone is weary, none stumbles,
none slumbers or sleeps,
not a waistband is loose,
not a sandal strap broken;
28 avtheir arrows are sharp,
all their bows bent,
their horseshoofs seem like flint,
and their wheels awlike the whirlwind.
29Their roaring is like a lion,
like young lions they roar;
they growl and axseize their prey;
they carry it off, and none can rescue.
30They will growl over it on that day,
like the growling of the sea.
And if one looks to the land,
behold, aydarkness and distress;
and the light is darkened by its clouds.

Lamentations 1:14

14 “My transgressions were bound
The meaning of the Hebrew is uncertain
into baa yoke;
by his hand they were fastened together;
they were set upon my neck;
he caused my strength to fail;
the Lord gave me into the hands
of those whom I cannot withstand.

Hosea 4:1-5

The Lord Accuses Israel

1 bbHear the word of the Lord, O children of Israel,
for bcthe Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land.
There is no faithfulness or steadfast love,
and bdno knowledge of God in the land;
2 bethere is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;
they break all bounds, and bfbloodshed follows bloodshed.
3Therefore bgthe land mourns,
and all who dwell in it languish,
bhand also the beasts of the field
and the birds of the heavens,
biand even the fish of the sea are taken away.
4 bjYet let no one contend,
and let none accuse,
for with you is bkmy contention, O priest.
Or  for your people are like those who contend with the priest

5You shall stumble by day;
the prophet also shall stumble with you by night;
and I will destroy bmyour mother.

Matthew 23:35-36

35so that on you may come all bnthe righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous boAbel to the blood of bpZechariah the son of Barachiah,
Some manuscripts omit  the son of Barachiah
whom you murdered between brthe sanctuary and bsthe altar.
36Truly, I say to you, btall these things will come upon this generation.
