Psalms 4

Answer Me When I Call

To the achoirmaster: with bstringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

1 Answer me when I call, O God of my crighteousness!
You have dgiven me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!
2 O men,
Or  O men of rank
how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
How long will you love vain words and seek after flies?  Selah
3But know that the Lord has gset apart hthe godly for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.
4 iBe angry,
Or  Be agitated
and do not sin;
kponder in your own hearts lon your beds, and be silent.  Selah
5Offer mright sacrifices,
and put your ntrust in the Lord.
6 There are many who say, “Who will show us some good?
oLift up pthe light of your face upon us, O Lord!”
7You have put qmore joy in my heart
than they have when their grain and wine abound.
8 In peace I will both rlie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me sdwell in safety.

Psalms 27

The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation

Of David.

1 The Lord is my tlight and my usalvation;
vwhom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold
Or refuge
of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evildoers assail me
to xeat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
it is they who stumble and fall.
3 yThough an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet
Or in this
I will be confident.
4 aaOne thing have I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
that I may abdwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon acthe beauty of the Lord
and to inquire
Or meditate
in his temple.
5 For he will aehide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will aflift me high upon a rock.
6 And now my aghead shall be lifted up
above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
sacrifices with shouts of ahjoy;
aiI will sing and make melody to the Lord.
7 ajHear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;
be gracious to me and answer me!
8You have said, akSeek
The command ( seek) is addressed to more than one person
my face.”
My heart says to you,
“Your face, Lord, do I seek.”
The meaning of the Hebrew verse is uncertain

9 anHide not your face from me.
Turn not your servant away in anger,
O you who have been my help.

aoO God of my salvation!

but the Lord will aqtake me in.
11 arTeach me your way, O Lord,
and lead me on asa level path
because of my enemies.
12 atGive me not up to the will of my adversaries;
for aufalse witnesses have risen against me,
and they avbreathe out violence.
13 I believe
Other Hebrew manuscripts Oh! Had I not believed
that I shall look upon axthe goodness of the Lord
in aythe land of the living!
14 azWait for the Lord;
babe strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!
