8The voice of iyour watchmen—they lift up their voice;
together they sing for joy;
jfor eye to eye they see
the return of the Lord to Zion.
9 kBreak forth together into singing,
lyou waste places of Jerusalem,

Israel’s Joy and Restoration

14 rSing aloud, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O Israel!
Rejoice and exult with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!

he has cleared away your enemies.
sThe King of Israel, tthe Lord, is in your midst;
you shall never again fear evil.
16 uOn that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:
Fear not, O Zion;
vlet not your hands grow weak.
17 wThe Lord your God is in your midst,
xa mighty one who will save;
yhe will rejoice over you with gladness;

The Coming King of Zion

9 zRejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
aaBehold, abyour king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
achumble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Matthew 21:4-9

4This took place adto fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,

5 aeSay to the daughter of Zion,
Behold, your king is coming to you,
afhumble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt,
Or donkey, and on a colt,
the foal of a beast of burden.’”
6The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. 7They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. 8Most of the crowd ahspread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, aiHosanna to ajthe Son of David! akBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna alin the highest!”
