16 But to the wicked God says:
“What right have you to recite my statutes
or take my covenant on your lips?
17 ^aFor you hate discipline,
^band you cast my words behind you.
18 If you see a thief, ^cyou are pleased with him,
^dand you keep company with adulterers.
19 “You give your mouth free rein for evil,
^eand your tongue frames deceit.
20 You sit and speak against your brother;
you slander your own mother’s son.
21 These things you have done, and I ^fhave been silent;

Matthew 23:3-12

3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, ^jbut not the works they do. ^kFor they preach, but do not practice. 4 ^lThey tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, ^{▼▼Some manuscripts omit hard to bear} and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5 ⁿThey do all their deeds ^oto be seen by others. For they make ^ptheir phylacteries broad and ^qtheir fringes long, 6 and they ^rlove the place of honor at feasts and ^sthe best seats in the synagogues 7 and ^tgreetings in ^uthe marketplaces and being called ^vrabbi ^{▼▼ Rabbi means my teacher, or my master; also verse 8} by others. 8 ^xBut you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are ^yall brothers. ^{▼▼Or brothers and sisters} 9 ^aaAnd call no man your father on earth, for ^abyou have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, ^acthe Christ. 11 ^adThe greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 ^aeWhoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

Luke 4:23

23 And he said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ^af‘Physician, heal yourself.’ What we have heard you did ^agat Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.”

Luke 11:46

46 And he said, “Woe to you ^ahlawyers also! For ^aiyou load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

Luke 12:47
