Isaiah 19:1-15

An Oracle Concerning Egypt

1An agoracle concerning ahEgypt.

Behold, the Lord aiis riding on a swift cloud
and comes to Egypt;
and ajthe idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence,
and the heart of the Egyptians will akmelt within them.
2And I will stir up Egyptians against Egyptians,
aland they will fight, each against another
and each against his neighbor,
city against city, kingdom against kingdom;
3and the spirit of the Egyptians within them will be emptied out,
and I will confound
Or  I will swallow up
their ancounsel;
and they will inquire of the idols and the sorcerers,
and aothe mediums and the necromancers;
4and I will give over the Egyptians
into the hand of apa hard master,
and a fierce king will rule over them,
declares the Lord God of hosts.
5 And the waters of the sea will be dried up,
and the river will be dry and parched,
6and its canals will become foul,
and the branches of Egypt’s Nile will diminish and dry up,
reeds and rushes will rot away.
7There will be bare places by the Nile,
on the brink of the Nile,
and all that is sown by the Nile will be parched,
will be driven away, and will be no more.
8The aqfishermen will mourn and lament,
all who cast a hook in the Nile;
and they will languish
who spread nets on the water.
9The workers in arcombed flax will be in despair,
and the weavers of white cotton.
10Those who are the aspillars of the land will be crushed,
and all who atwork for pay will be grieved.
11 The princes of auZoan are utterly foolish;
the wisest counselors of Pharaoh give stupid counsel.
How can you say to Pharaoh,
“I am a son of the wise,
a son of ancient kings”?
12Where then are your avwise men?
Let them tell you
that they might know what the Lord of hosts has purposed against Egypt.
13The princes of awZoan have become fools,
and the princes of axMemphis are deluded;
those who are the aycornerstones of her tribes
have made Egypt stagger.
14The Lord has mingled within her aza spirit of confusion,
and they will make Egypt stagger in all its deeds,
baas a drunken man staggers in his vomit.
15And there will be nothing for Egypt
that bbhead or tail, palm branch or reed, may do.

Isaiah 27:12-13

12In that day bcfrom the river Euphrates
Hebrew  from the River
to the Brook of Egypt the Lord will thresh out the grain, and you will be gleaned one by one, O people of Israel.
13And in that day bea great trumpet will be blown, bfand those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt bgwill come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

Isaiah 49:20-23

20 bhThe children of your bereavement
will yet say in your ears:
bi‘The place is too narrow for me;
make room for me to dwell in.’
21Then you will say in your heart:
Who has borne me these?
bjI was bereaved and barren,
exiled and put away,
but who has brought up these?
Behold, I was left alone;
from where have these come?’”
22 Thus says the Lord God:
Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations,
bkand raise my signal to the peoples;
bland they shall bring your sons in their arms,
Hebrew  in their bosom

and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.
23 bnKings shall be your foster fathers,
and their queens your nursing mothers.
boWith their faces to the ground they shall bow down to you,
and bplick the dust of your feet.
Then you will know that I am the Lord;
bqthose who wait for me brshall not be put to shame.”
