9 ^dIf the Lord of hosts
had not left us ^ea few survivors,
we should have been like ^fSodom,
and become like ^gGomorrah.
10 Hear the word of the Lord,
you rulers of ^h, ⁱSodom!
Give ear to the teaching ^{▼▼Or law} of our God,
you people of ^kGomorrah!
11 ^l“What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices?
says the Lord;
I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
and the fat of well-fed beasts;
I do not delight in the blood of bulls,
or of lambs, or of goats.
12 “When you come to ^mappear before me,
who has required of you
this trampling of my courts?
13 Bring no more vain offerings;
incense is an abomination to me.
ⁿNew moon and Sabbath and the ^ocalling of convocations—
I cannot endure ^piniquity and ^qsolemn assembly.
14 Your ^rnew moons and your appointed feasts
my soul hates;
they have become a burden to me;
I am weary of bearing them.
15 When you ^sspread out your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;
^teven though you make many prayers,
I will not listen;
^uyour hands are full of blood.

Isaiah 48:1-2

Israel Refined for God’s Glory

1 Hear this, O house of Jacob,
^vwho are called by the name of Israel,
and ^wwho came from the waters of Judah,
^xwho swear by the name of the Lord
and confess the God of Israel,
but not in truth or right.
2 For they call themselves after the holy city,
^yand stay themselves on the God of Israel;
the Lord of hosts is his name.

Hosea 1:6-9

6 She conceived again and bore a daughter. And the Lord said to him, ^z“Call her name No Mercy, ^{▼▼Hebrew Lo-ruhama, which means she has not received mercy} for ^abI will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them at all. 7 But ^acI will have mercy on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the Lord their God. Romans 9:6-8

6 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, 7 and not all are children of Abraham ^ambecause they are his offspring, but ^an“Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” 8 This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but ^aothe children of the promise are counted as offspring.
