zSee Num. 14; 16; 17

Psalms 77:20

20You aled your people like a flock
by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Psalms 78:14-72

14 bIn the daytime he led them with a cloud,
and all the night with a fiery light.
15He csplit rocks in the wilderness
and gave them drink abundantly as from the deep.
16He made streams come out of dthe rock
and caused waters to flow down like rivers.
17 Yet they sinned still more against him,
erebelling against the Most High in the desert.
18They ftested God in their heart
by demanding the food they craved.
19They spoke against God, saying,
gCan God hspread a table in the wilderness?
20 iHe struck the rock so that water gushed out
and streams overflowed.
Can he also give bread
or provide meat for his people?”
21 Therefore, when the Lord heard, he was full of wrath;
ja fire was kindled against Jacob;
his anger rose against Israel,
22because they kdid not believe in God
and did not trust his saving power.
23Yet he commanded the skies above
and lopened the doors of heaven,
24and he mrained down on them manna to eat
and gave them nthe grain of heaven.
25Man ate of the bread of othe angels;
he sent them food pin abundance.
26He qcaused the east wind to blow in the heavens,
and by his power he led out the south wind;
27he rained meat on them like rdust,
winged birds like sthe sand of the seas;
28he tlet them fall in the midst of their camp,
all around their dwellings.
29And they uate and were well filled,
for he gave them what they vcraved.
30But before they had satisfied their craving,
wwhile the food was still in their mouths,
31the anger of God rose against them,
and he killed xthe strongest of them
and laid low ythe young men of Israel.
32 In spite of all this, they zstill sinned;
aadespite his wonders, they did not believe.
33So he made abtheir days acvanish like
Hebrew in
a breath,
Or vapor

and their years in terror.
34When he killed them, they afsought him;
they repented and sought God earnestly.
35They remembered that God was their agrock,
the Most High God their ahredeemer.
36But they aiflattered him with their mouths;
they ajlied to him with their tongues.
37Their akheart was not alsteadfast toward him;
they were not faithful to his covenant.
38Yet he, being amcompassionate,
anatoned for their iniquity
and did not destroy them;
he restrained his anger often
and did not stir up all his wrath.
39He aoremembered that they were but apflesh,
aqa wind that passes and comes not again.
40How often they arrebelled against him in the wilderness
and asgrieved him in atthe desert!
41They autested God again and again
and provoked avthe Holy One of Israel.
42They awdid not remember his power
Hebrew hand

or the day when he redeemed them from the foe,
43 aywhen he performed his azsigns in Egypt
and his bamarvels in bbthe fields of Zoan.
44He bcturned their rivers to blood,
so that they could not drink of their streams.
45He sent among them swarms of bdflies, which devoured them,
and befrogs, which destroyed them.
46He gave their crops to bfthe destroying locust
and the fruit of their labor to the locust.
47He destroyed their vines with bghail
and their sycamores with frost.
48He gave over their bhcattle to the hail
and their flocks to thunderbolts.
49He let loose on them his burning anger,
wrath, indignation, and distress,
a company of bidestroying angels.
50He made a path for his anger;
he did not spare them from death,
but gave their lives over to the plague.
51He struck down every bjfirstborn in Egypt,
the firstfruits of their strength in the tents of bkHam.
52Then he led out his people bllike sheep
and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53 bmHe led them in safety, so that they bnwere not afraid,
but bothe sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54And he brought them to his bpholy land,
bqto the mountain which his right hand had brwon.
55He bsdrove out nations before them;
he btapportioned them for a possession
and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
56 Yet they butested and bvrebelled against the Most High God
and did not keep his testimonies,
57but turned away and acted treacherously like their fathers;
they twisted like bwa deceitful bow.
58For they bxprovoked him to anger with their byhigh places;
they bzmoved him to jealousy with their caidols.
59When God heard, he was full of cbwrath,
and he utterly rejected Israel.
60He ccforsook his dwelling at cdShiloh,
the tent where he dwelt among mankind,
61and delivered his cepower to captivity,
his cfglory to the hand of the foe.
62He cggave his people over to the sword
and chvented his wrath on his heritage.
63 ciFire devoured their young men,
and their young women had no cjmarriage song.
64Their ckpriests fell by the sword,
and their clwidows made no lamentation.
65Then the Lord cmawoke as from sleep,
like a strong man shouting because of wine.
66And he cnput his adversaries to rout;
he put them to everlasting shame.
67 He rejected the tent of coJoseph;
he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim,
68but he chose the tribe of Judah,
Mount Zion, which he cploves.
69He cqbuilt his sanctuary like the high heavens,
like the earth, which he has founded forever.
70He crchose David his servant
and took him from the sheepfolds;
71from csfollowing the nursing ewes he brought him
to ctshepherd Jacob his people,
Israel his cuinheritance.
72With cvupright heart he shepherded them
and cwguided them with his skillful hand.

Psalms 105:39-41

39 He cxspread a cloud for a covering,
and fire to give light by night.
40 cyThey asked, and he czbrought quail,
and gave them dabread from heaven in abundance.
41He opened the rock, and dbwater gushed out;
it flowed through dcthe desert like a river.

Psalms 106:12-48

12Then ddthey believed his words;
they desang his praise.
13 But they soon dfforgot his works;
they did not wait for dghis counsel.
14But they had dha wanton craving in the wilderness,
and diput God to the test in the desert;
15he djgave them what they asked,
but sent dka wasting disease among them.
16 When men in the camp dlwere jealous of Moses
and Aaron, dmthe holy one of the Lord,
17 dnthe earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
and covered the company of Abiram.
18 doFire also broke out in their company;
the flame burned up the wicked.
19 They dpmade a calf in Horeb
and worshiped a metal image.
20They dqexchanged the glory of God
Hebrew  exchanged their glory

for the image of an ox that eats grass.
21They dsforgot God, their Savior,
who had done great things in Egypt,
22wondrous works in dtthe land of Ham,
and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23Therefore duhe said he would destroy them—
had not Moses, his dvchosen one,
dwstood in the breach before him,
to turn away his wrath from destroying them.
24 Then they dxdespised dythe pleasant land,
having dzno faith in his promise.
25They eamurmured in their tents,
and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
26Therefore he ebraised his hand and swore to them
that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
27and would make their offspring fall among the nations,
ecscattering them among the lands.
28 Then they edyoked themselves to the eeBaal of Peor,
and ate sacrifices offered to efthe dead;
29they provoked the Lord to anger with their deeds,
and a plague broke out among them.
30Then egPhinehas stood up and intervened,
and the plague was stayed.
31And that was ehcounted to him as righteousness
from generation to generation forever.
32 They eiangered him at the waters of Meribah,
and it went ill with Moses on their account,
33for they ejmade his spirit bitter,
Or  they rebelled against God’s Spirit

and he elspoke rashly with his lips.
34 They did not emdestroy the peoples,
enas the Lord commanded them,
35but they eomixed with the nations
and learned to do as they did.
36They served their idols,
which became epa snare to them.
37They eqsacrificed their sons
and their daughters to erthe demons;
38they poured out innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and the land was espolluted with blood.
39Thus they etbecame unclean by their acts,
and euplayed the whore in their deeds.
40 Then evthe anger of the Lord was kindled against ewhis people,
and he abhorred his exheritage;
41he eygave them into the hand of the nations,
so that those who hated them ruled over them.
42Their enemies ezoppressed them,
and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 faMany times he delivered them,
but they were rebellious in their fbpurposes
and were fcbrought low through their iniquity.
44 Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress,
when he fdheard their cry.
45For their sake he feremembered his covenant,
and ffrelented according to fgthe abundance of his steadfast love.
46He caused them to be fhpitied
by all those who held them captive.
47 fiSave us, O Lord our God,
and fjgather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
and glory in your praise.
48 fkBlessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting!
flAnd let all the people say, “Amen!”
fmPraise the Lord!
