Psalms 79

How Long, O Lord?

A Psalm of aAsaph.

1 O God, bthe nations have come into your cinheritance;
they have defiled your dholy temple;
they have elaid Jerusalem in ruins.
2They have given fthe bodies of your servants
to the birds of the heavens for food,
the flesh of your gfaithful to hthe beasts of the earth.
3They have poured out their blood like water
all around Jerusalem,
and there was ino one to bury them.
4We have become ja taunt to our neighbors,
kmocked and derided by those around us.
5 lHow long, O Lord? Will you be angry mforever?
Will your njealousy oburn like fire?
6 pPour out your anger on the nations
that qdo not know you,
and on the kingdoms
that rdo not call upon your name!
7For they have devoured Jacob
and laid waste his habitation.
8 sDo not remember against us tour former iniquities;
Or the iniquities of former generations

let your compassion come speedily to meet us,
for we are vbrought very low.
9 wHelp us, O God of our salvation,
for the glory of your name;
deliver us, and xatone for our sins,
for your yname’s sake!
10 zWhy should the nations say,
Where is their God?”
Let aathe avenging of the outpoured blood of your servants
be known among the nations before our eyes!
11 Let abthe groans of the prisoners come before you;
according to your great power, preserve those acdoomed to die!
12Return adsevenfold into the aelap of our neighbors
the aftaunts with which they have taunted you, O Lord!
13But we your people, the agsheep of your pasture,
will ahgive thanks to you forever;
from generation to generation we will recount your praise.
