Isaiah 11:1-5

The Righteous Reign of the Branch

1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of ^cJesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2 And ^dthe Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
^eHe shall not judge by ^fwhat his eyes see,
or decide disputes by ^gwhat his ears hear,
4 but ^hwith righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
and he shall ⁱstrike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and ^jwith the breath of his lips ^khe shall kill the wicked.
5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,
and ^lfaithfulness the belt of his loins.

Isaiah 40:9

The Greatness of God

9 Go on up to a high mountain,
O Zion, ^mherald of good news; ^{▼▼Or O herald of good news to Zion}
lift up your voice with strength,

lift it up, fear not;
say to the cities of Judah,
“Behold your God!”

Isaiah 40:11

11 ^pHe will tend his flock like a shepherd;
^qhe will gather the lambs in his arms;
^rhe will carry them in his bosom,
and gently lead those that are with young.

Isaiah 53:2

2 For he grew up before him like a young plant,
^sand like a root out of dry ground;
^the had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.

Ezekiel 17:2-10

2 ^u“Son of man, ^vpropound a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel; 3 say, Thus says the Lord God: ^wA great eagle ^xwith great wings and long pinions, ^yrich in plumage of many colors, came ^zto Lebanon ^aaand took the top of the cedar. 4 He broke off the topmost of its young twigs and carried it to a land of trade and set it in a city of merchants. 5 Then he took of the seed of the land ^aband planted it in fertile soil. ^{▼▼Hebrew in a field of seed} He placed it beside abundant waters. ^adHe set it like a willow twig, 6 and it sprouted and became a ^aelow ^afspreading vine, and its branches turned toward him, and its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and produced branches and put out boughs.

7 ^ag“And there was another great eagle with great wings and much plumage, ^ahand behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and shot forth its branches toward him from ^aithe bed where it was planted, that he might water it. 8 ^ajIt had been planted on good soil by abundant waters, that it might produce branches and bear fruit and become a noble vine.

9 “Say, Thus says the Lord God: ^akWill it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers, so that all its fresh sprouting leaves wither? It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it from its roots. 10 Behold, it is planted; will it thrive? ^alWill it not utterly wither when the east wind strikes it—wither away on the bed where it sprouted?”

Ezekiel 17:22-24

22 Thus says the Lord God: ^am“I myself will take a sprig from the lofty top of the cedar and will set it out. ^anI will break off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and ^aoI myself will plant it on a high and lofty mountain. 23 ^apOn the mountain height of Israel will I plant it, that it may bear branches and produce fruit and become a noble cedar. ^aqAnd under it will dwell every kind of bird; in the shade of its branches birds of every sort will nest. 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord; ^arI bring low the high tree, and make high the low tree, dry up ^asthe green tree, and make ^atthe dry tree flourish. ^auI am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.”

Ezekiel 34:29

29 And I will provide for them ^avrenowned plantations so that ^awthey shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer ^axsuffer the reproach of the nations.
