Psalms 80:8-16

8 You brought aa vine out of Egypt;
you bdrove out the nations and planted it.
9You ccleared the ground for it;
it took deep root and filled the land.
10The mountains were covered with its shade,
the mighty cedars with its branches.
11It sent out its branches to dthe sea
and its shoots to ethe River.
That is,  the Euphrates

12Why then have you gbroken down its walls,
so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
13 hThe boar from the forest ravages it,
and all that move in the field feed on it.
14 Turn again, O God of hosts!
iLook down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
15the stock that your right hand planted,
and for the son whom you made strong for yourself.
16They have jburned it with fire; they have kcut it down;
may they perish at lthe rebuke of your face!

Isaiah 5:1-4

The Vineyard of the Lord Destroyed

1 Let me sing for my beloved
my love song concerning his vineyard:
My beloved had ma vineyard
on a very fertile hill.
2He dug it and cleared it of stones,
and planted it with nchoice vines;
he built a watchtower in the midst of it,
and hewed out a wine vat in it;
and ohe looked for it to yield grapes,
but it yielded wild grapes.
3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem
and men of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.
4 pWhat more was there to do for my vineyard,
that I have not done in it?
qWhen I looked for it to yield grapes,
why did it yield wild grapes?

Jeremiah 2:21

21 rYet I planted you a choice vine,
wholly of pure seed.
sHow then have you turned degenerate
and become a wild vine?

Luke 13:6-9

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

6And he told this parable: A man had ta fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. uCut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ 8And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. 9Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”

John 15:1-8

I Am the True Vine

1I am the vtrue vine, and my Father is wthe vinedresser. 2 xEvery branch in me that does not bear fruit yhe takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, zthat it may bear more fruit. 3Already aayou are clean abbecause of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 acAbide adin me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5I am the vine; aeyou are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that afbears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in me aghe is thrown away like a branch and withers; ahand the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7If aiyou abide in me, and my words abide in you, ajask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 akBy this my Father is glorified, that you albear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.

Romans 11:17-24

17But if amsome of the branches were broken off, and you, analthough a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root
Greek root of richness; some manuscripts richness
of the olive tree,
18do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. 19Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you apstand fast through faith. So aqdo not become proud, but arfear. 21For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. 22Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, asprovided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise atyou too will be cut off. 23And aueven they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. 24For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.
