Jeremiah Spared from Death

16 fThen the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, gThis man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.” 17 hAnd certain of ithe elders of the land arose and spoke to all the assembled people, saying, 18Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and said to all the people of Judah: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts,

Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.’
19Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? kDid he not fear the Lord and entreat the favor of the Lord, land did not the Lord relent of the disaster that he had pronounced against them? mBut we are about to bring great disaster upon ourselves.”

24But the hand of nAhikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death.

Jeremiah Rescued from the Cistern

7When oEbed-melech pthe Ethiopian, qa eunuch who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern—the king was sitting rin the Benjamin Gate 8 sEbed-melech went from the king’s house and said to the king, 9“My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they did to Jeremiah the prophet by casting him into the cistern, and he will die there of thunger, ufor there is no bread left in the city.” 10Then the king commanded vEbed-melech the Ethiopian, “Take thirty men with you from here, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.”
