Psalms 83:3-18

3They lay acrafty plans against your people;
they consult together against your btreasured ones.
4They say, “Come, clet us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
5For they conspire with one accord;
against you they make a covenant
6the tents of dEdom and ethe Ishmaelites,
fMoab and gthe Hagrites,
7 hGebal and iAmmon and jAmalek,
kPhilistia with the inhabitants of lTyre;
8 mAsshur also has joined them;
they are the strong arm of nthe children of Lot.  Selah
9 Do to them as you did to oMidian,
as to pSisera and Jabin at qthe river Kishon,
10who were destroyed at rEn-dor,
who became sdung for the ground.
11Make their nobles like tOreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like uZebah and Zalmunna,
12who said, v“Let us take possession for ourselves
of the pastures of God.”
13 O my God, make them like wwhirling dust,
Or  like a tumbleweed

like ychaff before the wind.
14As zfire consumes the forest,
as the flame aasets the mountains ablaze,
15so may you pursue them abwith your tempest
and terrify them with your hurricane!
16 acFill their faces with shame,
that they may seek your name, O Lord.
17Let them be adput to shame and dismayed forever;
let them perish in disgrace,
18that they may aeknow that you alone,
afwhose name is the Lord,
are agthe Most High over all the earth.

Isaiah 34

Judgment on the Nations

1 Draw near, ahO nations, to hear,
and give attention, O peoples!
Let the earth hear, and all that fills it;
the world, and all that comes from it.
2For the Lord is enraged against all the nations,
and furious against all their host;
he has aidevoted them to destruction,
That is, set apart ( devoted) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction); also verse 5
has given them over for slaughter.
3Their slain shall be cast out,
and akthe stench of their corpses shall rise;
althe mountains shall flow with their blood.
4 amAll the host of heaven shall rot away,
and the skies roll up like a scroll.
All their host shall fall,
as leaves fall from the vine,
like leaves falling from the fig tree.
5 For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens;
behold, it descends for judgment upon anEdom,
upon the people aoI have devoted to destruction.
6The Lord has a sword; it is sated with blood;
it is gorged with fat,
with the blood of lambs and goats,
with the fat of the kidneys of rams.
apFor the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
7 aqWild oxen shall arfall with them,
and asyoung steers with atthe mighty bulls.
Their land shall drink its fill of blood,
and their soil shall be gorged with fat.
8 auFor the Lord has a day of vengeance,
a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
9 avAnd the streams of Edom
Hebrew her streams
shall be turned into pitch,
and her soil into sulfur;
her land shall become burning pitch.
10Night and day axit shall not be quenched;
ayits smoke shall go up forever.
azFrom generation to generation it shall lie waste;
none shall pass through it forever and ever.
11 baBut the hawk and the porcupine
The identity of the animals rendered  hawk and  porcupine is uncertain
shall possess it,
the owl and the raven shall dwell in it.
bcHe shall stretch the line of bdconfusion
Hebrew formlessness
over it,
and the plumb line of emptiness.
12Its nobles—there is no one there to call it a kingdom,
and all its princes shall be nothing.
13 bfThorns shall grow over its strongholds,
nettles and thistles in its fortresses.
It shall be the haunt of bgjackals,
an abode for ostriches.
Or owls

14 biAnd wild animals shall meet with hyenas;
the wild goat shall cry to his fellow;
indeed, there the night bird
Identity uncertain
settles
and finds for herself a resting place.
15 There the owl nests and lays
and hatches and gathers her young in her shadow;
indeed, there bkthe hawks are gathered,
each one with her mate.
16Seek and read from the book of the Lord:
Not one of these shall be missing;
none shall be without her mate.
For the mouth of the Lord has commanded,
and his Spirit has gathered them.
17 blHe has cast the lot for them;
his hand has portioned it out to them with the line;
they shall possess it forever;
from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.

Isaiah 63:1-6

The Lord’s Day of Vengeance

1 Who is this who comes from bmEdom,
in crimsoned garments from bnBozrah,
he who is splendid in his apparel,
bomarching in the greatness of his strength?
“It is I, speaking in righteousness,
mighty to save.”
2 Why is your bpapparel red,
and your garments like his bqwho treads in the winepress?
3 br“I have trodden the winepress alone,
bsand from the peoples no one was with me;
I trod them in my anger
and trampled them in my wrath;
their lifeblood
Or  their juice; also verse 6
spattered on my garments,
and stained all my apparel.
4 buFor the day of vengeance was in my heart,
and my year of redemption
Or the year of my redeemed
had come.
5I looked, but bwthere was no one to help;
I was appalled, but there was no one to uphold;
so my own arm brought me salvation,
and my wrath upheld me.
6I trampled down the peoples in my anger;
bxI made them drunk in my wrath,
and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”

Jeremiah 9:25-26

25Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when byI will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh 26 bzEgypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and caall who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair, for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are cbuncircumcised in heart.”

Ezekiel 25:12-14

Prophecy Against Edom

12Thus says the Lord God: Because ccEdom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended cdin taking vengeance on them, 13therefore thus says the Lord God, ceI will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off from it man and beast. And I will make it desolate; from cfTeman even to cgDedan they shall fall by the sword. 14And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom chby the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath, and cithey shall know my vengeance, declares the Lord God.

Ezekiel 32:29

29 cjEdom is ckthere, her kings and all her princes, who for all their might are laid with those who are killed by the sword; they lie with the uncircumcised, with those who go down to the pit.
