Isaiah 61:1-3

The Year of the Lord’s Favor

1 jThe Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has kanointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
Or afflicted

he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and mthe opening of the prison to those who are bound;
Or  the opening [of the eyes] to those who are blind; Septuagint  and recovery of sight to the blind

2 oto proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
pand the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
3to grant to those who mourn in Zion
qto give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
rthe oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
sthat they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, tthat he may be glorified.
Or  that he may display his beauty

Haggai 1:1-12

The Command to Rebuild the Temple

1 aqIn the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to arZerubbabel the son of asShealtiel, governor of Judah, and to atJoshua the son of auJehozadak, the high priest: 2Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.” 3Then the word of the Lord came avby the hand of Haggai the prophet, 4 aw“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while axthis house lies in ruins? 5Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: ayConsider your ways. 6 azYou have sown much, and harvested little. baYou eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who bbearns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.

7Thus says the Lord of hosts: bcConsider your ways. 8Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that bdI may take pleasure in it and that beI may be glorified, says the Lord. 9 bfYou looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, bgI blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house bhthat lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house. 10Therefore bithe heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. 11And bjI have called for a drought on the land and the hills, on bkthe grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and blon all their labors.”

The People Obey the Lord

12 bmThen bnZerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and boJoshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all bpthe remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord.

Hebrews 1:8-9

8But of the Son he says,

bqYour throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, brhas anointed you
with bsthe oil of gladness beyond your companions.”
