Psalms 9

I Will Recount Your Wonderful Deeds

Psalms 9 and 10 together follow an acrostic pattern, each stanza beginning with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. In the Septuagint they form one psalm

1 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your cwonderful deeds.
2I will be glad and dexult in you;
I will esing praise to your name, fO Most High.
3 When my enemies turn back,
they stumble and perish before
Or because of
your presence.
4For you have hmaintained my just cause;
you have isat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.
5 You have jrebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish;
you have kblotted out their name forever and ever.
6The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins;
their cities you rooted out;
the very memory of them has perished.
7 But the Lord sits enthroned forever;
he has established his throne for justice,
8and he ljudges the world with righteousness;
he mjudges the peoples with uprightness.
9 The Lord is na stronghold for othe oppressed,
a stronghold in ptimes of trouble.
10And those who qknow your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
11 Sing praises to the Lord, who rsits enthroned in Zion!
Tell among the peoples his sdeeds!
12For he who tavenges blood is mindful of them;
he udoes not forget the cry of the afflicted.
13 vBe gracious to me, O Lord!
See my affliction from those who hate me,
O you who lift me up from wthe gates of death,
14that I may recount all your praises,
that in the gates of xthe daughter of Zion
I may yrejoice in your salvation.
15 The nations have sunk in zthe pit that they made;
in aathe net that they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16The Lord has made himself abknown; he has executed judgment;
the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands.  Higgaion.

17 The wicked shall adreturn to Sheol,
all the nations that aeforget God.
18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
and afthe hope of the poor shall not perish forever.
19 agArise, O Lord! Let not ahman prevail;
let the nations be judged before you!
20Put them in fear, O Lord!
Let the nations know that they are but aimen!  Selah

Psalms 68

God Shall Scatter His Enemies

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. A Song.

1 ajGod shall arise, his enemies shall be akscattered;
and those who hate him shall flee before him!
2As alsmoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away;
amas wax melts before fire,
so the wicked shall perish before God!
3But anthe righteous shall be glad;
they shall exult before God;
they shall be jubilant with joy!
4 Sing to God, aosing praises to his name;
aplift up a song to him who aqrides through arthe deserts;
his name is asthe Lord;
exult before him!
5 atFather of the fatherless and auprotector of widows
is God in his holy habitation.
6God avsettles the solitary in a home;
he awleads out the prisoners to prosperity,
but axthe rebellious dwell in aya parched land.
7 O God, when you azwent out before your people,
bawhen you marched through bbthe wilderness,  Selah
8 bcthe earth quaked, the heavens poured down rain,
before God, the One of Sinai,
before God, the God of Israel.
9 bdRain in abundance, O God, you shed abroad;
you restored your inheritance as it languished;
10your flock

found a dwelling in it;
in your goodness, O God, you bfprovided for the needy.
11 The Lord gives bgthe word;
bhthe women who announce the news are a great host:
12 bi“The kings of the armies—they flee, they flee!”
The women at home bjdivide the spoil
13though you men lie among bkthe sheepfolds
the wings of a dove covered with silver,
its pinions with shimmering gold.
14When the Almighty scatters kings there,
let snow fall on blZalmon.
15 O mountain of God, mountain of Bashan;
O many-peaked
Or hunch-backed; also verse 16
mountain, mountain of Bashan!
16Why do you look with hatred, O many-peaked mountain,
at the mount that God bndesired for his abode,
yes, where the Lord will dwell forever?
17 boThe chariots of God are twice ten thousand,
thousands upon thousands;
the Lord is among them; Sinai is now in the sanctuary.
18 bpYou ascended on high,
bqleading a host of captives in your train
and brreceiving gifts among men,
even among bsthe rebellious, btthat the Lord God may dwell there.
19 Blessed be the Lord,
who daily bubears us up;
God is our salvation.  Selah
20Our God is a God of salvation,
bvand to God, the Lord, belong deliverances from death.
21 bwBut God will strike the heads of his enemies,
the hairy crown of him who walks in his guilty ways.
22The Lord said,
“I will bring them back bxfrom Bashan,
byI will bring them back from the depths of the sea,
23that you may bzstrike your feet in their blood,
that cathe tongues of your dogs may have their portion from the foe.”
24 Your procession is

seen, O God,
the procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary
25 ccthe singers in front, cdthe musicians last,
between them cevirgins playing tambourines:
26 cfBless God in the great congregation,
the Lord, O you
The Hebrew for  you is plural here
who are of chIsrael’s fountain!”
27There is ciBenjamin, the least of them, in the lead,
the princes of Judah in their throng,
the princes of cjZebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
28 ckSummon your power, O God,
By revocalization (compare Septuagint); Hebrew Your God has summoned your power

the power, O God, by which you have worked for us.
29Because of your temple at Jerusalem
kings shall cmbear gifts to you.
30Rebuke cnthe beasts that dwell among the reeds,
the herd of cobulls with the calves of the peoples.
cpTrample underfoot those who lust after tribute;
scatter the peoples who delight in war.
The meaning of the Hebrew verse is uncertain

31Nobles shall come from crEgypt;
csCush shall hasten to ctstretch out her hands to God.
32 cuO kingdoms of the earth, sing to God;
sing praises to the Lord,  Selah
33to him cvwho rides in cwthe heavens, the ancient heavens;
behold, he cxsends out his voice, his mighty voice.
34 cyAscribe power to God,
whose majesty is over Israel,
and whose czpower is in dathe skies.
35 dbAwesome is God from his
Septuagint; Hebrew your
ddsanctuary;
the God of Israel—he is the one who gives depower and strength to his people.
