Romans 11:7-12

7 What then? ^aIsrael failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest ^bwere hardened, 8 as it is written,

^c“God gave them a spirit of stupor,
^deyes that would not see
and ears that would not hear,
down to this very day.”
9 And David says,

^e“Let their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them;
10 let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see,
and bend their backs forever.”

Gentiles Grafted In

11 So I ask, did they stumble in order that they might fall? By no means! Rather, through their trespass ^fsalvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous. 12 Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion ^{▼▼Greek their fullness} mean!

James 5:1-6

Warning to the Rich

1 Come now, ^hyou rich, weep and howl for the ⁱmiseries that are coming upon you. 2 ^jYour riches have rotted and ^kyour garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. ^lYou have laid up treasure ^min the last days. 4 Behold, ⁿthe wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and ^othe cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of ^pthe Lord of hosts. 5 ^qYou have lived on the earth in luxury and ^rin self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in ^sa day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and ^tmurdered ^uthe righteous person. He does not resist you.
