Romans 5:12-21

Death in Adam, Life in Christ

12Therefore, just as asin came into the world through one man, and bdeath through sin, and cso death spread to all men
The Greek word anthropoi refers here to both men and women; also twice in verse 18
because eall sinned
13for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but fsin is not counted where there is no law. 14Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not glike the transgression of Adam, hwho was a type of ithe one who was to come.

15But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for jmany. 16And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For kthe judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought ljustification. 17For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness mreign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

18Therefore, as one trespass
Or the trespass of one
led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness
Or the act of righteousness of one
leads to justification and life for pall men.
19For as by the one man’s qdisobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s robedience the many will be made righteous. 20Now sthe law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, tgrace abounded all the more, 21so that, uas sin reigned in death, vgrace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:16

16Do you not know that if you present yourselves wto anyone as obedient slaves,
For the contextual rendering of the Greek word doulos, see Preface (twice in this verse and verse 19; also once in verses 17, 20)
you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

Romans 6:23

23 yFor the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 7:10-13

10The very commandment zthat promised life proved to be death to me. 11For sin, aaseizing an opportunity through the commandment, abdeceived me and through it killed me. 12So acthe law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

13Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.
