Romans 9:27-29

27And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: aThough the number of the sons of Israel
Or children of Israel
be as the sand of the sea, conly a remnant of them will be saved,
28for the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth fully and without delay.” 29And as Isaiah predicted,

d, eIf the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring,
fwe would have been like Sodom
and become like Gomorrah.”

Romans 11:1-7

The Remnant of Israel

1I ask, then, ghas God rejected his people? By no means! For hI myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham,
Or one of the offspring of Abraham
a member of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 jGod has not rejected his people whom he kforeknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel? 3 lLord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.” 4But what is God’s reply to him? m“I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” 5So too at the present time there is na remnant, chosen by grace. 6 oBut if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

7What then? pIsrael failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest qwere hardened,
