Romans 9:4-6

4 They are ^eIsraelites, and to them belong ^fthe adoption, ^gthe glory, ^hthe covenants, ⁱthe giving of the law, ^jthe worship, and ^kthe promises. 5 To them belong ^lthe patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, ^mwho is God over all, ⁿblessed forever. Amen.

6 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel,

Romans 9:25-26

25 As indeed he says in Hosea,

^o“Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’
and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’”

Romans 11:1-12

The Remnant of Israel

1 I ask, then, ^rhas God rejected his people? By no means! For ^sI myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, ^{▼▼Or one of the offspring of Abraham} a member of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 ^uGod has not rejected his people whom he ^vforeknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel? 3 ^w“Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.” 4 But what is God’s reply to him? ^x“I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” 5 So too at the present time there is ^ya remnant, chosen by grace. 6 ^zBut if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

7 What then? ^aaIsrael failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest ^abwere hardened, 8 as it is written,

^ac“God gave them a spirit of stupor,
^adeyes that would not see
and ears that would not hear,
down to this very day.”
9 And David says,

^ae“Let their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them;
10 let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see,
and bend their backs forever.”

Gentiles Grafted In

11 So I ask, did they stumble in order that they might fall? By no means! Rather, through their trespass ^afsalvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous. 12 Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion ^{▼▼Greek their fullness} mean!

1 Peter 2:9

9 But you are ^aha chosen race, ^aia royal ^ajpriesthood, ^aka holy nation, ^ala people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you ^amout of darkness into ^anhis marvelous light.
