Zechariah 7:5-7

5Say to all the people of the land and the priests, 'When you fasted and mourned in athe fifth month and in bthe seventh, for these cseventy years, dwas it efor me that you fasted? 6 fAnd when you eat and when you drink, do you not eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves? 7 gWere not these the words that the Lord proclaimed hby the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prosperous, iwith her cities around her, and the jSouth and the klowland were inhabited?'”

Fasting

16And lwhen you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. mTruly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

Romans 14:6

6The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since nhe gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.

Romans 14:8

8For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, owhether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.
