So Jesus, after
raising His
eyes and
seeing that a
large crowd was
coming to Him, *
said to
hPhilip,
“Where are we to buy bread so that these people may eat?”

“There is a
boy here who has five barley loaves and
two ofish; but
what are
these for
so many people?”

twenty-five or thirty stadia, they *
saw Jesus walking on the
sea and
coming near the
boat; and they
were frightened.

boat was at the
land to
which they were
going.

crowd that

sea saw that there was
no other small boat there except one, and that

disciples, but

disciples had
departed alone.

Capernaum,
looking for Jesus.

Jesus answered them and
said,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, you aoseek Me, not because you saw ▼▼I.e., confirming miracles
aqsigns, but because you ate some of the loaves and were filled.

Do not arwork for the food that perishes, but for the food that lasts for aseternal life, which atthe Son of Man will give you, for on Him the Father, God, auhas set His ▼▼I.e., of identification or authenticity

said to them,
“This is awthe work of God, that you believe in Him whom He axhas sent.”

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me bydraws him; and I will bzraise him up on the last day.

argue with
one another,
saying, “
How can this man give us His
flesh to
eat?”

So Jesus said to them,

וַיָּבֶן יֵשׁוּעַ בְּלִבּוֹ כִּי תַלְמִידָיו מַלִּינִים עַל־זֹאת וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם הֲזֹאת לָכֶם לְמִכְשׁוֹל׃
But
Jesus,
ddaware that His
disciples were
complaining about this,
said to them,
“Is this ▼ dfoffensive to you?

מָה־אֵפוֹא אִם־תִּרְאוּ אֶת־בֶּן־הָאָדָם עֹלֶה אֶל־אֲשֶׁר הָיָה־שָׁם לְפָנִים׃
What then if you see dgthe Son of Man dhascending to where He was before?

הָרוּחַ הוּא הַנֹּתֵן חַיִּים וְהַבָּשָׂר אֵין־בּוֹ מוֹעִיל הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי דִּבַּרְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם רוּחַ הֵמָּה וְחַיִּים הֵמָּה׃
diIt is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; djthe words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life.

אַךְ־יֵשׁ מִכֶּם אֲשֶׁר לֹא יַאֲמִינוּ כִּי יֵשׁוּעַ יָדַע מֵרֹאשׁ מִי הֵם אֲשֶׁר אֵינָם מַאֲמִינִים וּמִי הַמּוֹסֵר אֹתוֹ׃
But there are dksome of you who do not believe.” For

beginning who they were who did not
believe, and

וַיֹּאמַר עַל־כֵּן אָמַרְתִּי לָכֶם כִּי לֹא־יוּכַל אִישׁ לָבוֹא אֵלַי בִּלְתִּי אִם־נִתַּן־לוֹ מֵאֵת אָבִי׃
And He was
saying,
“For this reason I have dotold you that no one can come to Me unless dpit has been granted him from the Father.”

מִן־הָעֵת הַזֹּאת רַבִּים מִתַּלְמִידָיו נָסֹגוּ אָחוֹר וְלֹא יָסְפוּ לְהִתְהַלֵּךְ אִתּוֹ׃
As a
result of
this many of His
dqdisciples drleft, and would
no longer walk with Him.

“You do not want to leave also, do you?”

“ dwDid I Myself not choose you, dxthe twelve? And yet one of you is dya devil.”
