וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵן הִבְדִּיל הָאָדוֹן עוֹד שִׁבְעִים אֲחֵרִים וַיִּשְׁלָחֵם לְפָנָיו שְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם אֶל־כָּל־עִיר וּמָקוֹם אֲשֶׁר בִּקֵּשׁ לָבוֹא שָׁמָּה׃
Now after this athe
Lord appointed ▼seventy-two cothers, and
sent them
din pairs ahead of Him to
every city and
place where He
Himself was going to come.

וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם הֵן הַקָּצִיר רַב וְהַפֹּעֲלִים מְעַטִּים לָכֵן הִתְחַנְנוּ אֶל־אֲדוֹן הַקָּצִיר וְיִשְׁלַח פֹּעֲלִים לִקְצִירוֹ׃
And He was
saying to them,
“ eThe harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

לְכוּ־נָא הִנְנִי שֹׁלֵחַ אֶתְכֶם כַּכְּבָשִׂים בֵּין הַזְּאֵבִים׃
Go; fbehold, I am sending you out like lambs in the midst of wolves.

אַל־תִּשְׂאוּ כִיס וְלֹא תַרְמִיל וְלֹא נְעָלִים וְאַל־תִּשְׁאֲלוּ לִשְׁלוֹם־אִישׁ בַּדָּרֶךְ׃
gCarry no money belt, no ▼bag, no sandals, and greet no one along the way.

וּלְכָל־בַּיִת אֲשֶׁר תָּבֹאוּ שָׁם אִמְרוּ בָרִאשׁוֹנָה שָׁלוֹם לַבַּיִת הַזֶּה׃
And whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’

וְהָיָה כִּי יִהְיֶה־שָּׁם בֶּן־שָׁלוֹם וְנָח עָלָיו שְׁלוֹמְכֶם וְאִם־לֹא אֲלֵיכֶם יָשׁוּב׃
And if a ▼man of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you.

וּבַבַּיִת הַהוּא תֵּשְׁבוּ וְתֹאכְלוּ וְתִשְׁתּוּ מִשֶּׁלָּהֶם כִּי שֹׁוֶה הַפּוֹעֵל בִּשְׂכָרוֹ אַל־תִּסְעוּ מִבַּיִת לְבָיִת׃
Stay in ▼that house, eating and drinking ▼▼Lit
the things from them what they provide; for lthe laborer is deserving of his wages. Do not move from house to house.

וְכָל־עִיר אֲשֶׁר תָּבֹאוּ בָהּ וְקִבְּלוּ אֶתְכֶם אִכְלוּ־שָׁם אֶת־אֲשֶׁר יָשִׂימוּ לִפְנֵיכֶם׃
Whatever city you enter and they receive you, meat what is served to you;

וְרִפְאוּ אֶת־הַחוֹלִים אֲשֶׁר בְּקִרְבָּהּ וְאִמְרוּ לָהֶם קָרְבָה אֲלֵיכֶם מַלְכוּת הָאֱלֹהִים׃
and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, ‘ nThe kingdom of God has come near to you.’

But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,

אַף אֶת־עֲפַר עִירְכֶם הַנִּדְבָּק בְּרַגְלֵינוּ נְנַעֲרֵהוּ לָכֶם אַךְ יָדֹעַ תֵּדְעוּ כִּי קָרְבָה אֲלֵיכֶם מַלְכוּת הָאֱלֹהִים׃
‘ oEven the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet ▼be sure of this, that qthe kingdom of God has come near.’

אֲנִי אֹמֵר אֲלֵיכֶם כִּי לִסְדוֹם יֵקַל בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא מִן־הָעִיר הַהִיא׃
I say to you, rit will be more tolerable on that day for sSodom than for that city.

אוֹי לָךְ כּוֹרָזִין אוֹי לָךְ בֵּית־צָיְדָה כִּי הַגְּבוּרוֹת אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשֹוּ בְקִרְבְּכֶן אִלּוּ נַעֲשֹוּ בְּצוֹר וּבְצִידוֹן הֲלֹא כְבָר יָשְׁבוּ בְּשַׂק וָאֵפֶר וָשָׁבוּ׃
“ tWoe to you, uChorazin! Woe to you, vBethsaida! For if the ▼miracles that occurred in you had occurred in xTyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in ▼▼I.e., symbols of mourning
zsackcloth and ashes.

אָכֵן לְצוֹר וְצִידוֹן יֵקַל בַּדִּין מִכֶּם׃
But it will be more tolerable for aaTyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.

וְאַתְּ כְּפַר־נַחוּם אֲשֶׁר עַד־הַשָּׁמַיִם הִתְרוֹמָמְתְּ אֶל־שְׁאוֹל תּוּרָדִי׃
And you, abCapernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will be brought down to Hades!

הַשּׁוֹמֵעַ אֲלֵיכֶם אֵלַי הוּא שׁוֹמֵעַ וְהַבּוֹזֶה אֶתְכֶם אוֹתִי הוּא בוֹזֶה וְהַבּוֹזֶה אוֹתִי הוּא בוֹזֶה אֶת־אֲשֶׁר שְׁלָחָנִי׃
“ acThe one who listens to you listens to Me, and adthe one who rejects you rejects Me; but the one who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”

joy,
saying, “
Lord,
even afthe
demons are
subject to us
▼in Your
name!”

Behold, I have given you authority to aiwalk on snakes and scorpions, and authority over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.

alAt that
very ▼time He
rejoiced greatly in the
Holy Spirit, and
said,
“I ▼praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for doing so was well pleasing in Your sight.

disciples, He
said privately,
“Blessed are the eyes that see the things you see;

וְהִנֵּה אֶחָד מִבַּעֲלֵי הַתּוֹרָה קָם לְנַסּוֹתוֹ וַיֹּאמַר מוֹרֶה מָה־אֶעֱשֶׂה וְאִירַשׁ חַיֵּי עוֹלָם׃
arAnd
behold, a
▼▼I.e., an expert in the Mosaic Law

put Him
to the test,
saying, “
Teacher,
what shall I
do to
inherit eternal life?”

וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמַר וְאָהַבְתָּ אֵת יְהוָֹה אֱלֹהֶיךָ בְּכָל־לְבָבְךָ וּבְכָל־נַפְשְׁךָ וּבְכָל־מְאֹדְךָ וּבְכָל־מַדָּעֲךָ וְאֶת־רֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ׃
And he
answered, “

and with all your soul,

and your neighbor as yourself.”

said to him,
“You have answered correctly; axdo this and you will live.”

וְהוּא חָפֵץ לְהִצְטַדֵּק וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל יֵשׁוּעַ וּמִי הוּא רֵעִי׃

wanting ayto
justify himself, he
said to
Jesus, “And
who is my
neighbor?”

וַיַּעַן יֵשׁוּעַ וַיֹּאמַר אִישׁ אֶחָד יָרַד מִירוּשָׁלַיִם לִירִיחוֹ וְנָפַל בִּידֵי שֹׁדְדִים וְהֵם הִפְשִׁיטֻהוּ וְגַם פְּצָעֻהוּ וַיַּעַזְבוּ אוֹתוֹ בֵּין חַיִּים לָמָוֶת וַיֵּלְכוּ לָהֶם׃
Jesus replied and
said,
“A man was azgoing down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he encountered robbers, and they stripped him and ▼beat him, and went away leaving him half dead.

And by coincidence a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

On the next day he took out two ▼▼The denarius was a day’s wages for a laborer
denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you.’

“ blMartha, Martha, you are bmworried and distracted by many things;

אֲבָל אַחַת הִיא מִן־הַצֹּרֶךְ וּמִרְיָם בָּחֲרָה לָהּ הַחֵלֶק הַטּוֹב אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יֻקַּח מִמֶּנָּה׃
bnbut only one thing is necessary; for boMary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
