Jesus aentered Jericho and was
passing through.

man called by the

Zaccheus; he was a

rich.

וַיְבַקֵּשׁ לִרְאוֹת אֶת־יֵשׁוּעַ מִי הוּא וְלֹא יָכֹל מִפְּנֵי הָעָם כִּי־שְׁפַל קוֹמָה הָיָה׃
Zaccheus was
trying to
see who Jesus was, and he was
unable due to the
crowd,
because he was
short in
stature.

וַיְקַדֵּם וַיָּרָץ וַיַּעַל עַל־שִׁקְמָה לִרְאוֹתוֹ כִּי־שָׁם הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר יַעֲבָר־בָּהּ׃
So he
ran on
ahead and
climbed up a
▼ dsycamore tree in order to see Him,
because He
was about to pass through that
way.

וַיְהִי בְּבֹאוֹ אֶל־הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא וַיַּבֵּט יֵשׁוּעַ וַיִּרְאֵהוּ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו זַכַּי רֵד מַהֵר כִּי־צָרִיךְ אֲנִי לָשֶׁבֶת הַיּוֹם בְּבֵיתֶךָ׃
And
when Jesus came to the
place, He
looked up and
said to him,
“Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”

And he
hurried and
came down, and
received Him

When
the people saw this, they
all began to
complain,
saying, “He has

man who is a
sinner!”

וַיַּעֲמֹד זַכַּי וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־הָאָדוֹן הִנֵּה אֲדֹנִי אֶת־מַחֲצִית נְכָסַי אֲנִי נֹתֵן לָעֲנִיִּים וְאִם־עָשַׁקְתִּי אִישׁ אָשִׁיב לוֹ אַרְבַּעְתָּיִם׃
But
Zaccheus stopped and
said to
gthe
Lord, “
Behold,
Lord,
half of my
possessions I am
giving to the
poor, and
if I have
hextorted anything from
anyone, I am
giving back ifour times as much.”

וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יֵשׁוּעַ הַיּוֹם הָיְתָה תְשׁוּעָה לַבַּיִת הַזֶּה בַּאֲשֶׁר בֶּן־אַבְרָהָם גַּם־הוּא׃
And
Jesus said to him,
“Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is ja son of Abraham.

כִּי בָא בֶּן־הָאָדָם לְבַקֵּשׁ וּלְהוֹשִׁיעַ אֶת־הָאֹבֵד׃
For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

וַיְהִי הֵם שֹׁמְעִים אֶת־זֹאת וַיֹּסֵף שְׂאֵת מָשָׁל עַל־אֲשֶׁר קָרַב לִירוּשָׁלַיִם וְהֵמָּה חשְׁבִים כִּי־מְהֵרָה תִגָּלֶה מַלְכוּת הָאֱלֹהִים׃
Now while they were
listening to
these things,
Jesus went on to
tell a
parable,
because kHe was
near Jerusalem and they
thought that
lthe
kingdom of
God was going to appear immediately.

עַל־כֵּן אָמָר אִישׁ אֶחָד מִן־הַנִּכְבָּדִים הָלַךְ אֶל־אֶרֶץ רְחוֹקָה לָקַחַת־לוֹ מַמְלָכָה וְלָשׁוּב׃

said,
“ mA nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then to return.

וַיִּקְרָא אֶל־עֲשָׂרָה מֵעֲבָדָיו וַיִּתֵּן לָהֶם עֲשָׂרָה מָנִים וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם סַחֲרוּ בָהֶם עַד בֹּאִי׃
And he called ten of his own slaves and gave them ten ▼▼A mina was equal to about 100 days’ wages for a laborer
minas, and said to them, ‘Do business with this money ▼until I come back.’

וּבְנֵי עִירוֹ שׂנְאִים אוֹתוֹ וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ מַלְאָכִים אַחֲרָיו לֵאמֹר לֹא־נַחְפֹּץ בָּזֶה כִּי־יִמְלֹךְ עָלֵינוּ׃
But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’

וַיְהִי אַחֲרֵי קַחְתּוֹ אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה וַיָּשֹׁב וַיֹּאמֶר לִקְרֹא אֶת־הָעֲבָדִים הָהֵם אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לָהֶם אֶת־הַכֶּסֶף לְמַעַן יֵדַע מָה־הִרְוִיחַ כָּל־אֶחָד בְּמִסְחָרוֹ׃
When he returned after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be summoned to him so that he would learn how much they had made by the business they had done.

וַיָּבֹא הָרִאשׁוֹן וַיֹּאמַר אֲדֹנִי מָנֶה שֶׁלְּךָ הֵבִיא עֲשֶׂרֶת מָנִים׃
The first slave appeared, saying, ‘ ▼Master, your ▼mina has made ten minas more.’

וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו כֵּן הָעֶבֶד הַטּוֹב תַּחַת אֲשֶׁר הָיִיתָ נֶאֱמָן בִּמְעַט מִזְעָר הֱיֵה שַׁלִּיט עַל־עֶשֶׂר עָרִים׃
And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave; since you have been rfaithful in a very little thing, you are to have authority over ten cities.’

And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’

מִפְּנֵי יִרְאָתִי אֹתְךָ כִּי אַתָּה אִישׁ קָשֶׁה לֹקֵחַ אֶת־אֲשֶׁר לֹא הִנַּחְתָּ וְקֹצֵר אֶת־אֲשֶׁר לֹא זָרָעְתָּ׃
for I was afraid of you, because you are a demanding man; you take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.’

וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו מִפִּיךָ אֶשְׁפָּטְךָ הָעֶבֶד הָרָע אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ כִּי־אֲנִי אִישׁ קָשֶׁה לֹקֵחַ אֶת־אֲשֶׁר לֹא הִנַּחְתִּי וְקוֹצֵר אֶת־אֲשֶׁר לֹא זָרָעְתִּי׃
He *said to him, ‘ ▼From your own lips I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am a demanding man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow?

וְלָמָּה לֹא־נָתַתָּ אֶת־כַּסְפִּי לַשֻּׁלְחָנִי וַאֲנִי בְּבוֹאִי הָיִיתִי תוֹבֵעַ אוֹתוֹ בְּרִבִּית׃
And so why did you not put my money in the bank, and when I came back, I would have collected it with interest?’

וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־הָעֹמְדִים שָׁם שְׂאוּ מִמֶּנּוּ אֶת־הַמָּנֶה וּתְנוּהוּ אֶל־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ עֲשֶׂרֶת הַמָּנִים׃
And then he said to the other slaves who were present, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’

And they said to him, ‘Master, he already has ten minas.’

הֵן אֲנִי אֹמֵר לָכֶם כִּי כָל־אִישׁ שֶׁיֶּשׁ־לוֹ יִנָּתֵן לוֹ וַאֲשֶׁר אֵין לוֹ יֻקַּח מִמֶּנּוּ גַּם אֶת־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ׃
‘ vI tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.

אֲבָל אֶת־אוֹיְבַי הָהֵם אֲשֶׁר לֹא־חָפְצוּ מָלְכִי עֲלֵיהֶם הָבִיאוּ אֹתָם הֵנָּה וְהִרְגוּ אֹתָם לְפָנָי׃
But as for wthese enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and xslaughter them in my presence.’”

Jesus said these things, He

Jerusalem.

saying,
“Go into the village ▼ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here.

And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘ ▼The Lord has need of it.’”

found it just as He had

▼miracles which they had
seen,

Teacher,
rebuke Your
disciples!”

barricade against you, and aysurround you and hem you in on every side,

began to
drive out those who were
selling,

“It is written: ‘ bdAnd My house will be a house of prayer,’ bebut you have made it a den of robbers.”

bfHe was
teaching daily in the
temple; but the
chief priests and the
scribes and the
leading men among the
people bgwere
trying to
put Him
to death,

▼every word He said.
