וַיַּבֵּט וַיַּרְא אֶת־הָעֲשִׁירִים מַשְׁלִיכִים אֶת־נִדְבוֹתָם לַאֲרוֹן הָאוֹצָר׃
aNow He
looked up and
saw the
wealthy putting their
gifts into the
temple treasury.

וַיַּרְא גַּם־אַלְמָנָה עֲנִיָּה נֹתֶנֶת בּוֹ שְׁתֵּי פְרוּטוֹת׃
And He
saw a
poor widow putting ▼in
ctwo ▼▼The smallest Greek copper coin, about 1/128 of a laborer’s daily wage
lepta coins.

וַיֹּאמַר אֱמֶת אֹמֵר אֲנִי לָכֶם כִּי הָאַלְמָנָה הָעֲנִיָּה הַזֹּאת נָתְנָה יוֹתֵר מִכֻּלָם׃
And He
said,
“Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them;

כִּי כָל־אֵלֶּה הִתְנַדְּבוּ לֵאלֹהִים מֵהָעֹדֵף שֶׁלָּהֶם וְהִיא מֵחֶסְרוֹנָהּ אֶת־כָּל־רְכוּשָׁהּ נָתָנָה׃
for they all ▼contributed to the ▼offering from their ▼surplus; but she, from her poverty, put in all ▼▼Lit
the living that she had that she had ito live on.”

וַיְהִי בְּאָמְרָם עַל־הַמִּקְדָּשׁ כִּי־מְהֻדָּר הוּא בַּאֲבָנִים יָפוֹת וּבְמַתָּנוֹת וַיֹּאמַר׃
jAnd while
some were
talking about the
temple, that it was
decorated with
beautiful stones and
▼▼I.e., gifts promised by vows
vowed gifts, He
said,

אֵת אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם רֹאִים הִנֵּה יָמִים בָּאִים וְלֹא תִשָּׁאֵר אֶבֶן עַל־אֶבֶן אֲשֶׁר לֹא תִתְפָּרָק׃
“As for these things which you are observing, the days will come when lthere will not be left one stone upon ▼another, which will not be torn down.”

וַיִּשְׁאָלֻהוּ לֵאמֹר רַבִּי מָתַי אֵפוֹא תִּהְיֶה זֹּאת וּמַה הוּא הָאוֹת לְעֵת הֱיוֹתָהּ׃
They
asked Him
questions,
saying, “
Teacher,
when therefore will
these things happen? And
what will be the
▼▼I.e., confirming miracle
sign when these things are about to take place?”

וַיֹּאמֶר רְאוּ פֶּן־תִּתָּעוּ כִּי רַבִּים יָבֹאוּ בִּשְׁמִי לֵאמֹר אֲנִי הוּא וְהָעֵת קְרוֹבָה וְאַתֶּם אַל־תֵּלְכוּ אַחֲרֵיהֶם׃
And He
said,
“See to it that you are not misled; for many will come in My name, saying, ‘ oI am He,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ pDo not go after them.

וּבְשָׁמְעֲכֶם מִלְחָמוֹת וּמְהוּמוֹת אַל־תֵּחַתּוּ כִּי הָיוֹ תִהְיֶה־זֹּאת לָרִאשׁוֹנָה אַךְ־עוֹד קֵץ לַמּוֹעֵד׃
And when you hear of wars and revolts, do not be alarmed; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately.”

וַיֹּסֶף דַּבֵּר אֲלֵיהֶם לֵאמֹר יָקוּם גּוֹי עַל־גּוֹי וּמַמְלָכָה עַל־מַמְלָכָה׃
Then He
continued by saying to them,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,

וְהָיָה רַעַשׁ גָּדוֹל כֹּה וָכֹה וְרָעָב וָדָבֶר וְגַם־מוֹרָאִים וְאֹתוֹת גְּדֹלוֹת מִן־הַשָּׁמָיִם׃
and there will be ▼massive earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrible sights and great ▼▼I.e., confirming miracles
signs from heaven.

וְלִפְנֵי כָל־אֵלֶּה יִשְׁלְחוּ בָכֶם אֶת־יְדֵיהֶם וְיִרְדְּפוּ וְיִמְסְרוּ אֶתְכֶם לְבָתֵּי כְנֵסִיּוֹת וְאֶל־בָּתֵּי כְלָאִים וְתוּבְאוּ לִפְנֵי מְלָכִים וּמשְׁלִים לְמַעַן שְׁמִי׃
“But before all these things, sthey will lay their hands on you and persecute you, turning you over to the synagogues and prisons, ▼bringing you before kings and governors on account of My name.

וְהָיְתָה־זֹּאת לָכֶם לְעֵדוּת׃
uIt will lead to ▼an opportunity for your testimony.

עַל־כֵּן שִׁיתוּ לְבַבְכֶם לְבִלְתִּי דְאֹג בַּמֶּה תִּצְטַדָּקוּ׃
wSo ▼make up your minds not to prepare beforehand to defend yourselves;

כִּי אָנֹכִי נֹתֵן לָכֶם פֶּה וְחָכְמָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יוּכְלוּ לַעֲמֹד לְפָנֶיהָ וּלְדַבֵּר נֶגְדָּהּ כָּל־מִתְקוֹמְמֵיכֶם׃
for yI will provide you ▼eloquence and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to oppose or refute.

וְגַם־תִּמָּסְרוּ עַל־יְדֵי יוֹלְדֵיכֶם וַאֲחֵיכֶם וּקְרוֹבֵיכֶם וְרֵעֵיכֶם וְיָמִיתוּ מִכֶּם׃
But you will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, other relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death,

וִהְיִיתֶם שְׂנוּאִים לְכָל־אָדָם לְמַעַן שְׁמִי׃
and you will be hated by all people because of My name.

And yet aanot a hair of your head will perish.

abBy your endurance you will gain your ▼lives.

וְכַאֲשֶׁר תִּרְאוּ מַחֲנוֹת סוֹבְבִים אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלָיִם יָדֹעַ תֵּדְעוּ כִּי קָרַב חָרְבָּנָהּ׃
“But when you see Jerusalem adsurrounded by armies, then ▼recognize that her desolation is near.

אָז יָנוּסוּ אַנְשֵׁי יְהוּדָה אֶל־הֶהָרִים וַאֲשֶׁר הֵם בְּתוֹכָהּ יֵצְאוּ וַאֲשֶׁר־הֵם בַּפְּרָזוֹת אַל־יָבוֹאוּ בָהּ׃
Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are inside ▼the city must leave, and agthose who are in the country must not enter ▼the city;

Woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for ajthere will be great distress upon the ▼land, and wrath to this people;

and they will fall by althe edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and amJerusalem will be antrampled underfoot by the Gentiles until aothe times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

“There will be ▼▼I.e., confirming miracles
signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,

people fainting from fear and the expectation of the things that are coming upon the ▼world; for the powers of ▼the heavens will be shaken.

וְאָז יִרְאוּ אֶת־בֶּן־הָאָדָם בָּא בֶעָנָן בִּגְבוּרָה ובְכָבוֹד רָב׃
And asthen they will see atthe Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

וְכַאֲשֶׁר תָּחֵל לִהְיוֹת זֹאת הִתְעוֹדְדוּ וּשְׂאוּ רָאשֵׁיכֶם כִּי קְרוֹבָה גְאֻלַּתְכֶם לָבוֹא׃
But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because auyour redemption is drawing near.”

וַיְדַבֵּר אֲלֵיהֶם מָשָׁל רְאוּ אֶת־הַתְּאֵנָה וְאֵת כָּל־הָעֵצִים׃
And He
told them a
parable:
“Look at the fig tree and all the trees:

כִּי־תִרְאוּ אֹתָם מוֹצִיאִים אֶת־פִּרְחָם הֲלֹא יְדַעְתֶּם כִּי קָרַב הַקָּיִץ׃
as soon as they put forth leaves, you see for yourselves and avknow that summer is now near.

כָּכָה אַף־אַתֶּם בְּבֹא אֵלֶּה לְעֵינֵיכֶם דְּעוּ כִּי קְרוֹבָה מַלְכוּת הָאֱלֹהִים׃
So you too, when you see these things happening, ▼recognize that axthe kingdom of God is near.

Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place.

ayHeaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

רַק הִשָּׁמְרוּ לָכֶם פֶּן־יִכְבַּד לְבַבְכֶם בְּסֹבֶא וּבְשִׁכָּרוֹן וּבְדַאֲגוֹת הַמִּחְיָה וּבָא עֲלֵיכֶם הַיּוֹם הַהוּא פִּתְאֹם׃
“But azbe on your guard, so that your hearts will not be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that ▼this day will not come on you suddenly, like a trap;

כִּי כְמוֹ־פַח יָבוֹא עַל כָּל־הַיּשְׁבִים עַל־פְּנֵי כָל־הָאָרֶץ׃
for it will come upon all those who live on the face of all the earth.

לָכֵן שִׁקְדוּ בְכָל־עֵת וְהִתְפַּלֵּלוּ לְמַעַן תִּמָּצְאוּ רְאוּיִם לְהִמָּלֵט מִכָּל־הָעֲתִידוֹת הָאֵלֶּה וּלְהִתְיַצֵּב לִפְנֵי בֶן־הָאָדָם׃
But bbstay alert at all times, praying that you will have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to bcstand before the Son of Man.”

temple, but
▼ bgat
evening He would
go out and
spend the night on
bhthe
▼mountain that is
called ▼Olivet.

And
all the
people would
get up bkvery early in the morning to come to Him in the
temple to
listen to Him.
