kill Him;

dWhile He was in
eBethany at the
home of
Simon ▼▼I.e., a nickname; the man no doubt was cured
the
Leper, He was
reclining at the table, and a
woman came with an
alabaster vial of
very gexpensive perfume of
pure ▼▼An aromatic oil extracted from an East Indian plant
nard. She
broke the
vial and
poured the perfume over His
head.

But there were
some indignantly remarking to
one another, “
Why has
this perfume been wasted?

כִּי רָאוּי הָיָה זֶה לְהִמָּכֵר בְּיוֹתֵר מִשְּׁלשׁ מֵאוֹת דִּינַר וּלְתִתּוֹ לָעֲנִיִּים וַיִּגְעֲרוּ בָּהּ׃
For
this perfume could have been
sold for
over three hundred ▼▼The denarius was a day’s wages for a laborer
denarii, and
the money given to the
poor.” And they were
scolding her.

וַיֹּאמֶר יֵשׁוּעַ הַנִּיחוּ לָהּ לָמָּה תֹגְיוּן נַפְשָׁהּ מַעֲשֶׂה טוֹב עָשְׂתָה עִמָּדִי׃
But
Jesus said,
“Leave her alone! Why are you bothering her? She has done a good deed for Me.

כִּי הָעֲנִיִּים תָּמִיד עִמָּכֶם וּכְשֶׁתִּרְצוּ תּוּכְלוּ לְהֵיטִיב לָהֶם וְאָנֹכִי לֹא־אֶהְיֶה אִתְּכֶם תָּמִיד׃
For you always have jthe poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me.

“Go into the city, and a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him;

and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My uguest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’

found everything just as He had

eating, He
took some bread, and

broke it, and
gave it to them, and
said,
“Take it; this is My body.”

Truly I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine again, until that day when I drink it, new, in the kingdom of God.”

scribes, and the

Now he who was
betraying Him had

seized him.

led Jesus away to the
high priest; and

chief priests, the
elders, and the

And
Peter had
followed Him at a
distance,

trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to

to death, and they were not

then some stood up and
began giving false testimony against Him,
saying,

שָׁמַעְנוּ אֹתוֹ אֹמֵר אֲנִי אֶהֱרֹס אֶת־הַהֵיכָל הַזֶּה מַעֲשֵׂה יְדֵי אָדָם וְלִשְׁלשֶׁת יָמִים אֶבְנֶה הֵיכָל אַחֵר אֲשֶׁר אֵינֶנּוּ מַעֲשֵׂה יְדֵי אָדָם׃
“We
heard Him
say, ‘
byI will
destroy this ▼temple that was
made by hands, and in
three days I will
build another,
made without hands.’”

And not
even in this respect was their
testimony consistent.

And
then the
high priest stood up and came forward and
questioned Jesus,
saying, “Do You not
offer any answer for
what these men are
testifying against You?”

וְהוּא הֶחֱרִישׁ וְלֹא הֵשִׁיב דָּבָר וַיּוֹסֶף עוֹד הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל לִשְׁאֹל אֹתוֹ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו הַאַתָּה הוּא הַמָּשִׁיחַ בֶּן־הַמְבֹרָךְ׃
caBut He
kept silent and did not
offer any answer.

high priest was
questioning Him, and *
said to Him, “Are You the

all condemned Him as
deserving of

remark to him,
“Before cxa rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And
