וַיְהִי מִקֵּץ יָמִים בְּשׁוּבוֹ אֶל־כְּפַר נַחוּם וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ כִּי־הוּא בַבָּיִת׃
When
Jesus came back to
Capernaum a
few days later, it was
heard that He was at
home.

amany were
gathered together,
so that there
was no longer space, not
even near the
door; and He was
speaking the
word to them.

וַיָּבֹאוּ אֵלָיו אֲנָשִׁים נֹשְׂאִים אִישׁ נְכֵה אֵבָרִים וַיִּשָּׂאֻהוּ בְּאַרְבָּעָה׃
bAnd
some people *came,
bringing to Him a
man who was
cparalyzed,
carried by
four men.

וְלֹא יָכְלוּ לָגֶשֶׁת אֵלָיו מִפְּנֵי הָעָם וַיָּסִירוּ אֶת־הַגָּג בַּמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר הָיָה שָׁם וַיַּחְתְּרוּ חֲתִירָה וַיּוֹרִידוּ אֶת־הַמִּשְׁכָּב אֲשֶׁר שָׁכַב עָלָיו נְכֵה הָאֵבָרִים׃
And when they were
unable to
▼get to Him
because of the
crowd, they
eremoved the
roof ▼above Him; and after
digging an opening, they
let down the
pallet on
which the
gparalyzed man was
lying.

וַיְהִי כִּרְאוֹת יֵשׁוּעַ אֶת־אֱמוּנָתָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־נְכֵה הָאֵבָרִים בְּנִי נִסְלְחוּ־לְךָ חַטֹּאתֶיךָ׃
And
Jesus,
seeing their
faith, *
said to the
paralyzed man,
“Son, hyour sins are forgiven.”

וַיִּהְיוּ מִן־הַסּוֹפְרִים יוֹשְׁבִים שָׁם וְחוֹשְׁבִים בְּלִבָּם לֵאמֹר׃
But
some of the
scribes were
sitting there and
thinking it over in their
hearts,

מַה־יְּדַבֵּר זֶה גִּדּוּפִים כָּאֵלֶּה מִי יוּכַל לִסְלֹחַ חֲטָאִים בִּלְתִּי הָאֱלֹהִים לְבַדּוֹ׃
“Why does
this man speak that
way? He is
blaspheming!
iWho can forgive sins except God alone?”

וַיֵּדַע יֵשׁוּעַ בְּרוּחוֹ כִּי־כָכָה חָשְׁבוּ בִלְבָבָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם מַדּוּעַ תַּחְשְׁבוּ כָאֵלֶּה בִּלְבַבְכֶם׃
Immediately Jesus,
aware ▼in His
spirit that they were
thinking that way within themselves, *
said to them,
“Why are you thinking about these things in your hearts?

מָה הַנָּקֵל הֶאָמֹר אֶל־נְכֵה הָאֵבָרִים נִסְלְחוּ־לְךָ חַטֹּאתֶיךָ אִם־אָמוֹר קוּם שָׂא אֶת־מִשְׁכָּבְךָ וְהִתְהַלֵּךְ׃
Which is easier, to say to the kparalyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’?

אַךְ לְמַעַן תֵּדְעוּן כִּי לְבֶן־הָאָדָם יֵשׁ הַשָּׁלְטָן לִסְלֹחַ חֲטָאִים בָּאָרֶץ וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־נְכֵה הָאֵבָרִים׃
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”--He *
said to the
paralyzed man,

And he
got up and
immediately picked up the

went out in the
sight of
everyone,
so that they were
all amazed and

glorifying God,
saying, “
mWe have
never seen anything like this!”

went out again by the
seashore; and

pAs He
passed by, He
saw ▼ rLevi the
son of
Alphaeus sitting in the
tax office, and He *
said to him,
“ sFollow Me!” And he

reclining at the table in his

And
hearing this, Jesus *said to them,
“ zIt is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Pharisees fast, but Your
disciples do not
fast?”

And
Jesus said to them,
“While the groom is with them, ▼▼Lit
sons of the bridal chamber the attendants of the groom cannot fast, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast.

But the acdays will come when the groom is taken away from them, and then they will fast, on that day.

“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise, ▼the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear results.

וְאֵין נֹתֵן יַיִן חָדָשׁ בְּנֹאדוֹת בָּלִים כִּי אָז יְבַקַּע הַיַּיִן אֶת־הַנֹּאדוֹת וְהַיַּיִן יִשָּׁפֵךְ וְהַנֹּאדוֹת יֹאבֵדוּ אֲבָל בְּנֹאדוֹת חֲדָשִׁים יִנָּתֵן הַיַּיִן הֶחָדָשׁ׃
And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.”

heads of grain.

Look,
agwhy are they
doing what is not
lawful on the
Sabbath?”

And He *
said to them,
“Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;

כִּי־בָא אֶל־בֵּית אֱלֹהִים בִּימֵי אֶבְיָתָר הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל וַיֹּאכַל אֶת־לֶחֶם הַפָּנִים אֲשֶׁר לֹא נָכוֹן לְאָכְלָה כִּי אִם־לַכֹּהֲנִים וַיִּתֵּן גַּם־לָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ׃
how he entered the house of God in the ▼time of aiAbiathar the high priest, and ate the ▼▼Lit
loaves of presentation consecrated bread, which akis not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?”

because of; or
for the sake of for man, and aonot man ▼▼Lit
because of; or
for the sake of for the Sabbath.

לָכֵן בֶּן־הָאָדָם אָדוֹן הוּא גַּם לַשַּׁבָּת׃
So the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.”
