(NASB2020)
Jesus spoke to them
again in
parables,
saying,
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
“ aThe kingdom of heaven ▼▼Lit
has been compared to is like ▼a king who ▼held a ewedding feast for his son.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
And he fsent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Again he gsent other slaves, saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened cattle are all butchered and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast!”’
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
But they paid no attention and went their separate ways, one to his own ▼farm, another to his business,
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
and the rest seized his slaves and treated them abusively, and then killed them.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Now the king was angry, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Then he *said to his slaves, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
So go to ithe main roads, and invite whomever you find there to the wedding feast.’
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good; and the wedding hall was filled with ▼▼Lit
those reclining at the table
dinner guests.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
“But when the king came in to look over the ▼▼Lit
those reclining at the table
dinner guests, he saw la man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes,
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
and he *said to him, ‘ mFriend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Then the king said to the servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him into nthe outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth in that place.’
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
For many are ▼ pcalled, but few are qchosen.”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
rThen the
Pharisees went and
▼plotted together how they might
trap Him
▼in what He
said.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
And they *
sent their
disciples to Him, along with the
uHerodians,
saying, “
Teacher, we
know that You are
truthful and
teach the
way of
God in
truth, and
▼▼Lit
it is not a concern to You about anyone; do not
care what
anyone thinks; for You
▼▼Lit
do not look at the face of people are not
partial to
anyone.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Tell us
then,
what do You
think? Is it
▼▼Or
lawful; i.e., by Jewish law and tradition
permissible to
pay a
▼▼I.e., a tax on each person in the census
zpoll-tax to
aaCaesar,
or not?”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
But
Jesus perceived their
▼malice, and
said,
“Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Show Me the accoin used for the poll-tax.” And they
brought Him a
▼▼The denarius was a day’s wages for a laborer
denarius.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
And He *
said to them,
“Whose image and inscription is this?”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
They *
said to Him, “
Caesar’s.”
Then He *
said to them,
“ aeThen pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
And
hearing this, they were
amazed; and
afthey
left Him and
went away.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
agOn that
day some ahSadducees (who
say aithere is
no resurrection)
came to
▼Jesus and
questioned Him,
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
saying, “
Teacher,
Moses said, ‘
akIf a
man dies having no children, his
brother as next of kin shall
marry his
wife, and
raise up ▼children for his
brother.’
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Now there were
seven brothers among us; and the
first married and
died, and
having no ▼children, he
left his
wife to his
brother.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
It was the
same also with the
second brother, and the
third,
down to the
seventh.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Last of
all, the
woman died.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
In the
resurrection,
therefore,
whose wife of the
seven will she be? For they
all had her
in marriage.”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
But
Jesus answered and
said to them,
“You are mistaken, ansince you do not ▼understand the Scriptures nor the power of God.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
For in the resurrection they neither apmarry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God:
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
‘ aqI am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
When the
crowds heard this, arthey were
astonished at His
teaching.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
asBut when the
Pharisees heard that
Jesus had
silenced atthe
Sadducees, they
gathered together.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
And
one of them,
▼▼I.e., an expert in the Mosaic Law
ava
lawyer,
asked Him
a question,
testing Him:
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
“Teacher,
which is the
great commandment in the
Law?”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
And He
said to him,
“‘ awYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
This is the great and ▼foremost commandment.
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
The second is like it, ‘ ayYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
azUpon these two commandments ▼hang the whole Law and the Prophets.”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
bbNow while the
Pharisees were
gathered together,
Jesus asked them
a question:
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
“What do you think about the ▼Christ? Whose son is He?” They *
said to Him, “
bdThe son of
David.”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
He *
said to them,
“Then ▼how does David ▼ bgin the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying,
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
‘ bhThe Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Until I put Your enemies under Your feet”’?
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
Therefore, if David calls Him ‘Lord,’ ▼how is He his son?”
(HebDelitzsch)
(NASB2020)
bjNo one was
able to
offer Him a
word in answer,
nor did
anyone dare from that
day on to
ask Him
any more questions.
