אָז תִּדְמֶה מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם לְעֶשֶׂר עֲלָמוֹת אֲשֶׁר לָקְחוּ אֶת־נֵרוֹתֵיהֶן וַתֵּצֶאנָה לִקְרַאת הֶחָתָן׃
“Then athe kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their blamps and went out to meet the groom.

חָמֵשׁ מֵהֶן הָיוּ חֲכָמוֹת וְחָמֵשׁ כְּסִילוֹת׃
Five of them were foolish, and five were cprudent.

הַכְּסִילוֹת לָקְחוּ אֶת־הַנֵּרוֹת וְלֹא־לָקְחוּ עִמָּהֶן שָׁמֶן׃
For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take extra oil with them;

וְהַחֲכָמוֹת לָקְחוּ שֶׁמֶן בִּכְלֵיהֶן וְאֵת נֵרוֹתֵיהֶן׃
but the dprudent ones took oil in flasks with their lamps.

וְכַאֲשֶׁר בּשֵׁשׁ הֶחָתָן לָבוֹא וַתָּנֹמְנָה כֻלָּן וַתֵּרָדַמְנָה׃
Now while the groom was delaying, they all became drowsy and began to sleep.

וַיְהִי בַּחֲצוֹת הַלַּיְלָה וַיִּשָּׁמַע קוֹל צְעָקָה הִנֵּה הֶחָתָן צְאֶינָה לִקְרָאתוֹ׃
But at midnight ▼▼Lit
a shout has occurred there finally was a shout: ‘Behold, the groom! Come out to meet him.’

אָז הִתְעוֹרְרוּ כָּל־הָעֲלָמוֹת הָהֵן וַתֵּיטַבְנָה אֶת־נֵרוֹתֵיהֶן׃
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.

וַתֹּאמַרְנָה הַכְּסִילוֹת אֶל־הַחֲכָמוֹת תֵּנָּה לָּנוּ מִשַּׁמְנְכֶן כִּי יִכְבּוּ נֵרוֹתֵינוּ׃
But the foolish virgins said to the prudent ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’

וַתַּעֲנֶינָה הַחֲכָמוֹת לֵאמֹר לֹא כֵן פֶּן־יֶחְסַר לָנוּ וְלָכֶן כִּי אִם־לֵכְנָה אֶל־הַמּוֹכְרִים וּקְנֶינָה לָכֶן׃
However, the fprudent ones answered, ‘No, there most certainly would not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’

וַיְהִי בְּעֵת לֶכְתָּן לִקְנוֹת וַיָּבוֹא הֶחָתָן וְהַנְּכֹנוֹת לָלֶכֶת בָּאוּ אִתּוֹ אֶל־הַחֲתֻנָּה וַתִּסָּגֵר הַדָּלֶת׃
But while they were ▼on their way to buy the oil, the groom came, and those who were hready went in with him to ithe wedding feast; and jthe door was shut.

וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵן בָּאוּ גַּם־שְׁאָר הָעֲלָמוֹת וַתֹּאמַרְנָה אֲדֹנֵינוּ אֲדֹנֵינוּ פְּתַח־לָנוּ׃
Yet later, the other virgins also came, saying, ‘ kLord, lord, open up for us.’

וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמַר אָמֵן אֹמֵר אֲנִי לָכֶן לֹא יָדַעְתִּי אֶתְכֶן׃
But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’

לָכֵן שְׁקֹדוּ כִּי אֵינְכֶם יוֹדְעִים אֶת־הַיּוֹם וְאֶת־הַשָּׁעָה אֲשֶׁר יָבֹא בָהּ בֶּן־הָאָדָם׃
lBe on the alert then, because you do not know the day nor the hour.

כִּי כְּמוֹ אִישׁ נֹסֵעַ לְמֵרָחוֹק אֲשֶׁר קָרָא אֶל־עֲבָדָיו וַיִּמְסֹר לָהֶם אֶת־רְכוּשׁוֹ׃
“ mFor it is just like a man nabout to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.

וַיִּתֵּן לָזֶה חָמֵשׁ כִּכָּרִים וְלָזֶה שְׁתַּיִם וְלָזֶה אֶחָת לְכָל־אִישׁ וְאִישׁ כְּפִי עֶרְכּוֹ וַיְמַהֵר וַיִּסַּע מִשָּׁם׃
To one he gave five ▼▼A talent was worth about fifteen years’ wages for a laborer
ptalents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he qwent on his journey.

The one who had received the five rtalents immediately went and did business with them, and earned five more talents.

In the same way the one who had received the two talents earned two more.

Therefore: take the talent away from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’

And throw the worthless slave into afthe outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

And all the nations will be aigathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, ajjust as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;

These will go away into azeternal punishment, but the righteous into baeternal life.”
