Gen 17: 1

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty;

Ἐγένετο δὲ Αβραμ ἐτῶν ἐνενήκοντα ἐννέα, καὶ ὤφθη κύριος τῷ αβραμ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἐγώ εἰμι θεός σου· εὐαρέστει ἐναντίον ἐμοῦ καὶ γίνου ἄμεμπτος,

that I may make my covenant between me and you, and dmay multiply you greatly.”

Gen 17: 3

Then Abram efell on his face. And God said to him,

Gen 17: 4

Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be fthe father of a multitude of nations.

Gen 17: 5

No longer shall your name be called Abram,
 Abram means exalted father
but iyour name shall be Abraham,
 Abraham means father of a multitude
kfor I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

וְלֹא־יִקָּרֵא עוֹד אֶת־שִׁמְךָ אַבְרָם וְהָיָה שִׁמְךָ אַבְרָהָם כִּי אַב־הֲמוֹן גּוֹיִם נְתַתִּֽיךָ׃

καὶ οὐ κληθήσεται ἔτι τὸ ὄνομά σου Αβραμ, ἀλλ' ἔσται τὸ ὄνομά σου Αβρααμ, ὅτι πατέρα πολλῶν ἐθνῶν τέθεικά σε.

Gen 17: 6

I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make myou into nations, and nkings shall come from you.

וְהִפְרֵתִי אֹֽתְךָ בִּמְאֹד מְאֹד וּנְתַתִּיךָ לְגוֹיִם וּמְלָכִים מִמְּךָ יֵצֵֽאוּ׃

καὶ αὐξανῶ σε σφόδρα σφόδρα καὶ θήσω σε εἰς ἔθνη, καὶ βασιλεῖς ἐκ σοῦ ἐξελεύσονται.

Gen 17: 7

And I will oestablish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, pto be God to you and to your offspring after you.

Gen 17: 8

And qI will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and rI will be their God.”

וְנָתַתִּי לְךָ וּלְזַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ אֵת׀ אֶרֶץ מְגֻרֶיךָ אֵת כָּל־אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן לַאֲחֻזַּת עוֹלָם וְהָיִיתִי לָהֶם לֵאלֹהִֽים׃

And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations.

And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

Gen 17: 10

This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.

Gen 17: 11

You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a tsign of the covenant between me and you.

וּנְמַלְתֶּם אֵת בְּשַׂר עָרְלַתְכֶם וְהָיָה לְאוֹת בְּרִית בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵיכֶֽם׃

And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.

Gen 17: 12

He who is ueight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or vbought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring,

וּבֶן־שְׁמֹנַת יָמִים יִמּוֹל לָכֶם כָּל־זָכָר לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶם יְלִיד בָּיִת וּמִקְנַת־כֶּסֶף מִכֹּל בֶּן־נֵכָר אֲשֶׁר לֹא מִֽזַּרְעֲךָ הֽוּא׃

καὶ παιδίον ὀκτὼ ἡμερῶν περιτμηθήσεται ὑμῖν πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν εἰς τὰς γενεὰς ὑμῶν, οἰκογενὴς τῆς οἰκίας σου. καὶ ἀργυρώνητος ἀπὸ παντὸς υἱοῦ ἀλλοτρίου, ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματός σου

And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

Gen 17: 13

both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant.

הִמּוֹל׀ יִמּוֹל יְלִיד בֵּֽיתְךָ וּמִקְנַת כַּסְפֶּךָ וְהָיְתָה בְרִיתִי בִּבְשַׂרְכֶם לִבְרִית עוֹלָֽם׃

περιτομῇ περιτμηθήσεται οἰκογενὴς τῆς οἰκίας σου καὶ ἀργυρώνητος, καὶ ἔσται διαθήκη μου ἐπὶ τῆς σαρκὸς ὑμῶν εἰς διαθήκην αἰώνιον.

He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

Gen 17: 14

(ESV)
Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”

וְעָרֵל׀ זָכָר אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא־יִמּוֹל אֶת־בְּשַׂר עָרְלָתוֹ וְנִכְרְתָה הַנֶּפֶשׁ הַהִוא מֵעַמֶּיהָ אֶת־בְּרִיתִי הֵפַֽר׃ס

καὶ ἀπερίτμητος ἄρσην, ὃς οὐ περιτμηθήσεται τὴν σάρκα τῆς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτοῦ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ, ἐξολεθρευθήσεται ψυχὴ ἐκείνη ἐκ τοῦ γένους αὐτῆς, ὅτι τὴν διαθήκην μου διεσκέδασεν.

And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

Gen 17: 15

(ESV)
And God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah
 Sarai and  Sarah mean princess
shall be her name.

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים אֶל־אַבְרָהָם שָׂרַי אִשְׁתְּךָ לֹא־תִקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמָהּ שָׂרָי כִּי שָׂרָה שְׁמָֽהּ׃

Εἶπεν δὲ θεὸς τῷ Αβρααμ Σαρα, γυνή σου, οὐ κληθήσεται τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς σαρα ἀλλὰ Σαρρα ἔσται τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς.

And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.

Gen 17: 16

I will bless her, and moreover, I will zgive

you a son by her. I will bless her, and abshe shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.”

וּבֵרַכְתִּי אֹתָהּ וְגַם נָתַתִּי מִמֶּנָּה לְךָ בֵּן וּבֵֽרַכְתִּיהָ וְהָֽיְתָה לְגוֹיִם מַלְכֵי עַמִּים מִמֶּנָּה יִהְיֽוּ׃

εὐλογήσω δὲ αὐτὴν καὶ δώσω σοι ἐξ αὐτῆς τέκνον· καὶ εὐλογήσω αὐτόν, καὶ ἔσται εἰς ἔθνη, καὶ βασιλεῖς ἐθνῶν ἐξ αὐτοῦ ἔσονται.

Then Abraham adfell on his face aeand laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”

וַיִּפֹּל אַבְרָהָם עַל־פָּנָיו וַיִּצְחָק וַיֹּאמֶר בְּלִבּוֹ הַלְּבֶן מֵאָֽה־שָׁנָה יִוָּלֵד וְאִם־שָׂרָה הֲבַת־תִּשְׁעִים שָׁנָה תֵּלֵֽד׃

καὶ ἔπεσεν Αβρααμ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον καὶ ἐγέλασεν καὶ εἶπεν ἐν τῇ διανοίᾳ αὐτοῦ λέγων εἰ τῷ ἑκατονταετεῖ γενήσεται, καὶ Εἰ Σαρρα ἐνενήκοντα ἐτῶν οὖσα τέξεται;

Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

Gen 17: 18

(ESV)
And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָהָם אֶל־הָֽאֱלֹהִים לוּ יִשְׁמָעֵאל יִחְיֶה לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃

εἶπεν δὲ Αβρααμ πρὸς τὸν θεόν Ισμαηλ οὗτος ζήτω ἐναντίον σου.

And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!

Gen 17: 19

God said, “No, but afSarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name agIsaac.
 Isaac means he laughs
I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים אֲבָל שָׂרָה אִשְׁתְּךָ יֹלֶדֶת לְךָ בֵּן וְקָרָאתָ אֶת־שְׁמוֹ יִצְחָק וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת־בְּרִיתִי אִתּוֹ לִבְרִית עוֹלָם לְזַרְעוֹ אַחֲרָֽיו׃

εἶπεν δὲ θεὸς τῷ Αβρααμ Ναί· ἰδοὺ Σαρρα γυνή σου τέξεταί σοι υἱόν, καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ισαακ, καὶ στήσω τὴν διαθήκην μου πρὸς αὐτὸν εἰς διαθήκην αἰώνιον καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ μετ' αὐτόν.

And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Gen 17: 20

(ESV)
As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and aimultiply him greatly. He ajshall father twelve princes, and akI will make him into a great nation.

וּֽלְיִשְׁמָעֵאל שְׁמַעְתִּיךָ הִנֵּה׀ בֵּרַכְתִּי אֹתוֹ וְהִפְרֵיתִי אֹתוֹ וְהִרְבֵּיתִי אֹתוֹ בִּמְאֹד מְאֹד שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂר נְשִׂיאִם יוֹלִיד וּנְתַתִּיו לְגוֹי גָּדֽוֹל׃

περὶ δὲ Ισμαηλ ἰδοὺ ἐπήκουσά σου· ἰδοὺ εὐλόγησα αὐτὸν καὶ αὐξανῶ αὐτὸν καὶ πληθυνῶ αὐτὸν σφόδρα· δώδεκα ἔθνη γεννήσει, καὶ δώσω αὐτὸν εἰς ἔθνος μέγα.

And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

Gen 17: 21

But alI will establish my covenant with Isaac, amwhom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year.”

וְאֶת־בְּרִיתִי אָקִים אֶת־יִצְחָק אֲשֶׁר תֵּלֵד לְךָ שָׂרָה לַמּוֹעֵד הַזֶּה בַּשָּׁנָה הָאַחֶֽרֶת׃

τὴν δὲ διαθήκην μου στήσω πρὸς Ισαακ, ὃν τέξεταί σοι Σαρρα εἰς τὸν καιρὸν τοῦτον ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῷ ἑτέρῳ.

But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

Gen 17: 22

When he had finished talking with him, anGod went up from Abraham.

וַיְכַל לְדַבֵּר אִתּוֹ וַיַּעַל אֱלֹהִים מֵעַל אַבְרָהָֽם׃

συνετέλεσεν δὲ λαλῶν πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἀνέβη θεὸς ἀπὸ Αβρααμ.

And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

Gen 17: 23

(ESV)
Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him.

וַיִּקַּח אַבְרָהָם אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵאל בְּנוֹ וְאֵת כָּל־יְלִידֵי בֵיתוֹ וְאֵת כָּל־מִקְנַת כַּסְפּוֹ כָּל־זָכָר בְּאַנְשֵׁי בֵּית אַבְרָהָם וַיָּמָל אֶת־בְּשַׂר עָרְלָתָם בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אִתּוֹ אֱלֹהִֽים׃

καὶ ἔλαβεν Αβρααμ Ισμαηλ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς οἰκογενεῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀργυρωνήτους καὶ πᾶν ἄρσεν τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αβρααμ Καὶ περιέτεμεν τὰς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης, καθὰ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ θεός.

Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

Gen 17: 26

That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised.

And all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
