‏ Judges 11:2-3

2 Gilead’s wife bore him sons, and when they grew up, they drove Jephthah out and said to him, “You will have no inheritance in our father’s house, because you are the son of another woman.” 3So Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob. a Then some lawless men joined Jephthah and traveled with him.

34 Don’t assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. b 35 For I came to turn

a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36and a man’s enemies will be

37 The person who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; e the person who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow
Lit follow after
Me is not worthy of Me.
39 Anyone finding
Or The one who finds
his life will lose it, h and anyone losing
Or and the one who loses
his life because of Me will find it. j

‏ Luke 14:26-28

26 “If anyone comes to Me k and does not hate l his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters – yes, and even his own life – he cannot be My disciple. 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross m and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

28 “For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and calculate the cost n to see if he has enough to complete it?
