1 Chronicles 27:1

The twelve captains for every month; the twelve princes of the tribes. David’s several officers.

1Now the sons of Israel, according to their number, the leaders of the families, the tribunes, and the centurions, and the chiefs, who were ministering to the king by their companies, entering and departing in each month of the year as they were in charge, were twenty-four thousand.
27:1This phrase ‘singuli præerant’ refers to each group that was in charge for one month at a time. In other words, as the subsequent verses describe in detail, they took turns doing the work of the king.(Conte)
