The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God’s family, the church
loved by God, mthat he has chosen you, 5because nour gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and oin the Holy Spirit and with full pconviction. You know qwhat kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. 6And ryou became imitators of us sand of the Lord, for tyou received the word in much affliction, uwith the vjoy of the Holy Spirit, 7so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8For not only has the word of the Lord wsounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth xeverywhere, so that we need not say anything. 9For they themselves report concerning us the kind of yreception we had among you, and how zyou turned to God aafrom idols to serve the living and abtrue God, 10and acto wait for his Son adfrom heaven, aewhom he raised from the dead, Jesus afwho delivers us from agthe wrath to come.
