Every ordinance of man; all human laws which are not in opposition to the law of God.

For the Lord's sake; for the purpose of honoring him. The praise of them that do well; their protection, security, and comfort. Put to silence; a good life best confounds slanderers. As free; free from the service of Satan, and from slavish bondage to human ordinances. Compare Ga 5:13.

For a cloak of maliciousness; not abusing your liberty by making it a cover for doing wrong to man.
