26Jesus Is Crucified Matthew 27:32-44; Mark 15:21-32; John 19:17-27As they led him away, they took hold of Simon, a man from Cyrene, as he was coming in from the country, and they put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.Matt 27:32; Mark 15:21; John 19:17 27A large crowd of people followed him, including some women who kept beating their breasts and wailing for him. 28But Jesus turned to them and said, “Women

36The soldiers also made fun of him, coming up and offering him sour wine 37and saying, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!” 38There was also an inscription over him written in Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:

40But the other one rebuked him, saying, “Aren't you afraid of God, since you are suffering the same penalty? 41We have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42Then he went on to say, “Jesus, remember me when you come into

‏ John 19:17-27

17Jesus Is Crucified Matthew 27:32-44; Mark 15:21-32; Luke 23:26-43Carrying the cross all by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of a Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.Num 15:36; Matt 27:31, 33; Mark 15:21-22; Luke 23:26, 33; Heb 13:12 18There they crucified him, along with two others, one on each side of him with Jesus in the middle. 19Pilate wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus from Nazareth,
Nazareth. 19:19 Or Jesus the Nazarene; the Gk. Nazoraios may be a word play between Heb. netser, meaning branch (see Isa 11:1), and the name
the King of the Jews.”Matt 27:37; Mark 15:26; Luke 23:38
20Many Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city. It was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.

21Then the Jewish high priests told Pilate, “Don't write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this fellow said, ‘I am the King of the Jews.’

22Pilate replied, “What I have written I have written.”

23When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier, and took his cloak
Lit. and his tunic
as well. The cloak was seamless, woven in one piece from the top down.Matt 27:35; Mark 15:24; Luke 23:34
24So they said to each other, “Let's not tear it. Instead, let's throw dice to see who gets it.” This was to fulfill the Scripture that says,Ps 22:18

“They divided my clothes among themselves,

and for my clothing they threw dice.”
Ps 22:18

So that is what the soldiers did.

25Meanwhile, standing near Jesus’ cross were his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.Matt 27:55; Mark 15:40; Luke 23:49; 24:18 26When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he kept loving standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.”John 2:4; 13:23; 20:2 27Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.John 1:11; 16:32
