Psalm 56

In God I Trust, I Shall Not Be Afraid

For the choir director. According to ▼
▼Or The silent dove of those who are far off, The dove of the distant terebinths
Jonath Elem Rehokim. A ▼
▼Possibly Epigrammatic Poem, Atonement Psalm
Mikhtam of David. ▼
▼1 Sam 21:10, 11
When the Philistines seized him in Gath.

1Be gracious to me, O God, for man has ▼
▼Or snapped at
trampled upon me;
All day long, an attacker oppresses me.
2My foes have ▼
▼Or snapped at
trampled upon me all day long,
For many attack me proudly.
3 ▼
▼ Lit In the day
When I am afraid,
▼
▼ Or I am one who puts
I will trust in You.
4In God, whose word I praise,
In God I trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere ▼
▼Lit flesh
man do to me?
5All day long they ▼
▼Or trouble my affairs
distort my words;
All their ▼
▼Or purposes
thoughts are against me for evil.
6They ▼
▼Or stir up strife
attack, they lurk,
They watch my heels,
As they have hoped to take my ▼
▼Lit soul
life.
7On account of their wickedness, will they have an escape?
In anger, bring down the peoples, O God!
8You have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?
9Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call;
This I know, ▼
▼Or because
that God is for me.
10In God, whose word I praise,
In Yahweh, whose word I praise,
11In God I ▼
▼Or trust without fear
trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
12Your vows are binding upon me, O God;
I will ▼
▼Lit pay
fulfill thank offerings to You.
13 ▼
▼ Or Have You not delivered
For You have delivered my soul from death,
Indeed my feet from stumbling,
So that I may walk before God
In the light of the ▼
▼Or life
living.
