Psalm 76

God’s Name Is Great in Israel

For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

1God is known in Judah;
His name is great in Israel.
2So His
Lit shelter
tabernacle is in Salem;
His dwelling place is in Zion.
3There He broke the
Lit fiery shafts of the bow
flaming arrows,
The shield and the sword and the battle.
Selah may mean Pause, Crescendo, Musical Interlude
Selah.
4You are shining,
Majestic from the mountains of prey.
5The stouthearted were plundered,
Lit They slumbered their sleep
They sank into sleep;
And none of the
Lit valiant men have found their hands
warriors could use his hands.
6At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
Both chariot rider and horse slumbered into a deep sleep.
7But You, You are
Or awesome
fearsome;
And who can stand in Your presence when once
Lit Your anger is
You are angry?
8You made Your cause to be heard from heaven;
The earth feared and was quiet
9When God arose to judgment,
To save all the humble of the earth. Selah.
10For the
Lit wraths
wrath of man shall praise You;
With a remnant of wrath You will gird Yourself.
11Make vows to Yahweh your God and pay them;
Let all who are around Him bring gifts to the Fearsome One.
12He will cut off the spirit of princes;
He is
Lit awesome to
feared by the kings of the earth.
