‏ 1 Corinthians 14:14

v. 14: Paul explains, “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful”(1 Corinthians 14:14 a). If a prayer is spoken in a language no one understands, even the person praying does not gain understanding, and others cannot join in the prayer.

Paul’s main message is that spiritual gifts should be used to help everyone in the church, not just to make ourselves feel special. When we speak or pray, we should use words everyone can understand so all can be encouraged and strengthened in faith.
