‏ 1 Corinthians 14:16-17

v. 16-17: He explains, “Else when you shall bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the room of the unlearned say Amen at your giving of thanks, seeing he understands not what you say? For you truly give thanks well, but the other is not edified”(1 Corinthians 14:16-17 a). If prayers or thanksgivings are spoken in an unknown language, the congregation cannot agree by saying Amenbecause they do not understand the words. Public worship is meant to involve everyone, so prayers must be clear for all to join in and be spiritually strengthened.
