1Cor 14:5 | MHM | STEP | v. 5 : Paul says, “I would that you all spoke with tongues, but rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying” (1 Corinthians 14:5 ). He is not saying that the gift of tongues is bad—every gift from God is good—but prophecy is better because it helps the whole church. Even speaking in tongues is only helpful if someone can interpret, so everyone can understand and be encouraged.
